Hotel Mattresses, Bedding and Room Accessories Are Hot Home Items

Kathryn (Kathy) McKenzie Nichols
Have you ever enjoyed sleeping on a hotel mattress so much that you wanted to buy one for yourself? Or wanted the oversized showerhead you used during your stay at a fancy resort? How about the hotel's spa products, electronics, or even the pet bedding?

These days, many upscale hotels and resorts offer their own lines of luxury home items that you can either buy while you're at the establishment, or order later through their online stores. Everything from towels and comforters to essential oils and room accessories now can be purchased for your own use at home.

Mattresses, in particular, are a bigger item than you might think. Many hotels have upgraded their mattress quality in recent years, working in partnership with manufacturers like Serta and Simmons.

If you like the mattress you slept on during your hotel stay, look for the label or ask the front desk what the brand is. You may be able to place an order through the front desk or through the hotel's online store.

If not, go to the manufacturer website. In the case of Serta (www.serta.com), click on the link on the left side of the home page for "Serta Hotel Mattresses." On the Simmons site (www.simmons.com), it's harder to find - scroll to the bottom of the home page and click on "Hospitality Division." On the Sealy (www.sealy.com) website, you'll also see a small link at the bottom of the home page that says "Commercial Hospitality."

Just about every major hotel chain that is nicely furnished seems to have an online store offering a variety of products that are found in the hotels. For instance, at the Hilton store (www.hiltontohome.com), you can purchase the Touch of Down pillows and the white woven stripe sheets and pillowcases used in the rooms, as well as bath and body products, bathrobes, towels and shower curtains. The Hilton site also sells pet beds, totes and food bowls, as the MP3 clock radio that is in the rooms.

Marriott hotels offer three different bedding packages that include not only the linens and pillows, but also the mattress and boxspring, for one price, at www.shopmarriott.com. Or, if you like, you can order elements separately on the website.

Marriott also sells a Tots Travel Too collection that includes portable cribs and other items for little ones, lamps and mirrors, and bath items.

Sheraton (www.sheraton-hotelsathome.com) is another chain that offers mattresses, bedding and more, with some unique additions: You can purchase the rollaway bed used by the chain, a "gym in a bag" for fitness buffs, and a Sheraton-themed Monopoly game.

These are just a few examples, but of course, there are many more hotels and resorts with online home stores. Even those that aren't chains often have home stores, as in the case of the Pebble Beach resorts (www.pebblebeach.com).

If you have a favorite hotel or resort, or one where you've admired some of the furnishings, simply Google the name of the resort plus "home store" and you should get to the right place to buy its merchandise.

Great topic and article. Marriott does have a nice mattress.

It always seems that the beds at B&Bs are soooo comfortable! I think the secret is the foamy mattress toppers (whatever they're called).
