Hotel Review of the Best Western Holiday Plaza in Richmond, Kentucky
A Comfy Stay for Travelers Featuring an Indoor, Heated Pool and Full Breakfast Bar!
Located directly off I75 (a major highway through the Richmond/Lexington area) the hotel is ideally located for travelers and for those staying to explore the Richmond area. It is also close to Eastern Kentucky University and the Boonesboro State Park.
Directly outside the hotel parking lot is a full-service gas station with another directly across the road. Subway, Waffle House, and Dunkin Donuts are also located across the road. The parking lot, itself, is well designed with ample parking close to rooms. Those traveling with tractor-trailers or with boats may have a little trouble navigating some of the parking lots turns, but there are spaces in the front of the hotel to accommodate larger vehicles.
Rooms
The rooms are comfortably sized and well-designed in a traditional hotel room rectangular shape. A desk/table is situated by the windows for dining and there's ample room in the duo-dresser for clothing. Though the closet is not enclosed, there's no stinginess in hangers or space.
Bathrooms are a little small, but do provide adequate privacy as they are separated by a divider wall from the beds.
Beds were comfortable and plenty of pillows and blankets were on hand for use. One drawback on the double bed rooms is they are full-size beds, not queen-sized. This didn't bother us, but it may not be comfortable for some.
Amenities
Each room is equipped with free high speed Internet (wireless routers are available for check-out,) and cable satellite television with HBO.
The hotel has a large heated indoor swimming pool, hot tub, and small workout center. The pool was always heated nicely and the pool room was, as well. The bathrooms are not terribly close, so be sure to plan ahead with little ones in tow.
Though a bit worn, the workout center equipment is functional and the workout rooms have cable satellite television, individually controlled temperatures, and a water fountain.
Food
Here's where the Best Western Holiday Plaza Richmond shines. A full complimentary hot and cold breakfast is served daily. Not your average coffee and donuts either, the breakfast bar features bacon, sausage and biscuits, toast, fruit, cereal, juice, yogurt, and even do-it-yourself waffles! With such a wide variety of breakfast foods to choose from, we were able to eat a different breakfast each day and never found the need to eat breakfast out.
In addition, the hotel is very close to fine dining, casual dining, and a variety of fast-food chains. A few are even within walking distance. Several oriental and pizza restaurants will deliver to the hotel.
Service
The staff of the hotel also get high-fives for service! Every phone call placed to the front desk was answered promptly and courteously. Every request was fulfilled in the same manner. Very friendly service and well-managed hotel.
Room service attendants were equally gracious and pleasant. Our room was neatly straightened, vacuumed and items were replaced regularly. Our room service attendant also noticed we were using more than the "allotted" number of towels and began replacing our stack with a greater number; thereby saving us trips/calls to the front counter. A huge thumbs up for this extra!
Pricing
Rates average between $49 to $69 per night. Corporate, Extended Stay, AAA, and AARP/Senior rates are available.
