Upon arriving, I was greeted by a sign that said to please excuse the noise as they were renovating. I was beyond angry. The idea of staying in a hotel is to sleep, which you can't do if loud machinery is running. The lady at the desk only shrugged at my concerns. Turned out, the sign was for nothing because the construction didn't start until around 10am. Either she didn't know that or she wanted to torture me.
Most hotels that have high-speed internet require you to bring your own Ethernet cable if one is needed. However, this place actually had a few to loan out. It was really convenient since I didn't own an Ethernet cable and I didn't want to buy one to use only the one time. I had no problems logging onto their internet connection, their system works great. If you have a dial up account with your internet service provider, you can use it at this hotel since local calls are free.
In the lobby, they have free hot chocolate, cappuccino, coffee, etc. It's really great when you don't want a soft drink out of the machine. Another convenience about this hotel is that they are within walking distance of Shoney's. After all, Shoney's has the best breakfast buffet. If you don't like Shoney's, the hotel is also close to other restaurants. It is conveniently located right near a shopping center and the JMU campus.
Some, if not all, of their rooms have a microwave and a refrigerator. I found this very nice since I had a pizza delivered to the room. If not for having these added conveniences, the rest of the pizza would have been thrown away.
I really enjoyed their indoor pool. I can't swim, but I enjoyed the end of the pool that wasn't above my head. And the pool actually seemed clean. The Jacuzzi was perfectly warm and comfortable too. I even spent some time in the dry sauna. While I didn't use them, this hotel also has a fitness center and a laundry area.
When the maid came in to make the bed, I noticed that they don't wear uniforms. And she was very nice and friendly. And she didn't wake me to clean the room as has happened at some other hotels.
Of all the hotels I've stayed at, I've never stayed anywhere that had all of these extra features and is so close to everything. This place is almost like a little resort. I highly recommend it.
