What I liked about the hotel
The hotel is built like a square with a courtyard in the middle. The courtyard is beautiful. In the middle of the courtyard is a gazebo with a table and chairs inside. Their are also several benches around the courtyard. It is a relaxing environment with its' fountain and various flowers and plants to view.
The library is a cozy place to enjoy with a fireplace to keep you warm and a comfortable couch. The book selection is limited, but it is nice to have a few books to fill your time.
The rooms are nicely decorated. I stayed in the suite which was fairly large. The in-room Jacuzzis are a nice touch. I walked by the traditional rooms and they were decorated nicely and a fairly normal size as far as hotels go.
The location was nice. Close to the freeway and shopping.
What I hated about the hotel
My room had horrible plumbing issues. The sink and bathtub drained extremely slow. I could not get through a whole shower without fear of the tub overflowing. During my stay, the plumbing issue was never resolved.
The parking lot. My car was broken into twice during my stay. The hotel does have on-site night time security guards that patrol the parking lot at night but they did not see the incident either time. The front desk was not concerned in the least bit that my car had been broken into twice.
The front desk and the manager have horrible customer service skills. My stay was cut short because they double booked my room.
The breakfast coupon was for $5.00 per person at the on-site restaurant "Dupars". The $5.00 coupon was enough to buy a donut and a juice. If you wanted a full breakfast, the $5.00 would not cut it. The food prices were high for the low quality food. One day I ordered a piece of cheese cake. What I got was crust with what looked like cottage cheese on it. It didn't taste much better than it looked.
Guests of the hotel were big on complaining. I was asked not to smoke in the parking lot at night because it made one of the guests nervous when I was out there. I guess perhaps my middle aged, 5 foot tall body in my little pink sweat suit, is pretty scary. My neighbor had a bedtime of 7:30 pm. So after 7:30 pm, complaints would roll in if I made to much noise. I guess the mans' bionic ears were ultra sensitive to any footstep that touched the ground.
Conclusion
Would I stay at the Best Western Thousand Oaks Inn again? Probably not. It was not a cheap hotel, so decent plumbing would have been nice. I can't really blame the hotel for my car getting broken into, but never the less, it was not a pleasant experience. Just realize the security guards are more for show. Let's just say that I don't miss the restaurant. The front desk? Well I know they can't control guest complaints, but they can handle the situation better. It seems their method is, if a guest complains about another guest, then the front desk will complain to that other guest, no matter how ridiculous that complaint may be. Finally, maybe I have a different view on reservations than most. I thought reservation meant - guaranteed room. Maybe I was wrong and reservation meant - we know that you want a room.
I know that businesses have off experiences. Maybe if you choose to stay there your experience will be better. But do, watch your car.
