The Nimseeseng (or Nim See Seng) Hotel has turned out to be a pleasant surprise during my trip to Chiang Mai. I came to the city with my wife and son so that my wife could renew her Thai passport. I came across the hotel by pure chance; I arrived in the city early in the morning and ended up lost. A sign for the hotel promised comfortable accommodation at an affordable price; I decide to give it a go.
The Nimseeseng Hotel is a Chinese styled hotel; it has a sister hotel in Chiang Rai. It is located near Chaing Mai airport, and not far from the large Central shopping complex. The location means that it is a few kilometres away from the old part of the city where most visitors congregate and where the main city attractions are situated. This may be a bit of a problem if you don't have your own transportation, but the hotel will be able to summon a taxi or tuk-tuk.
The rooms at this hotel very reasonably priced considering what you get. We were offered 450THB or 650THB rooms; we decided to go with the more expensive room so as to give our son a bit of space. The room was well-furnished with a lovely balcony which looks down on the swimming pool and courtyard. The air-conditioning was a bit slow to cool the room, but once it was up and running it was fine. Television lovers might be a bit disappointed as there is very few English speaking channels; I could only find the Al-Jazeera news channel. On the plus side there is free wi-fi which offered fast-internet for much of my stay. There is a gym which I didn't get an opportunity to try, but it looked well equipped from the outside.
This hotel has a lot for kids; my two year old son loved it. There is a selection of animals wandering around the hotel; including chickens and geese. There is a small enclosure which contains some cows, a horse, and a deer. In the restaurant is a small hutch containing some rabbits. The swimming pool has a children's section as well as an adult section. There were also quite a few children staying in the hotel.
The food in the hotel is reasonably priced. The room menu was limited, but the restaurant had a better selection. The Thai food is excellent, but if you prefer western food then your choices will be limited. I am a vegetarian and they had a section on the menu to cater for me. I had some tasty vegetarian spring rolls an green curry. The restaurant itself is right beside the swimming pool and a pleasant place to spend the evening. The staff at the hotel were very accommodating and friendly.
Overall my family and I enjoyed staying at the Nimseeseng hotel. I would definitely consider staying here again on my next visit to Chiang Mai.
