Upon our arrival we were greeted with fresh leis and our tour guide who escorted us to baggage claim and our shuttle. The air was filled with fresh flowers and Hawaiian music.
All seemed dreamy until our arrival at our hotel.
Our shuttle dropped us off in front of our hotel at about 11:30 in the morning. After check in, we hurried up to our hotel room to take our showers and get cleaned up after our eight hour plane trip.
The hotel room appeared clean but it needed a little TLC. The paint was bad and it smelt very musty. Expecting to take hot showers we where unpleasantly thrown into shock by the ice cold water we could only get. We tried at every hour of the day and still no hot water. If you were lucky you might get room temperature water for about 2 minutes. The shower was moldy and all the tiles we cracked. I was amazed that somebody was actually able to use the shower considering you only able to receive cold water out of it. For the whole week of our stay at the Ohana Waikiki West we had cold showers.
Ohana Waikiki West's room service on the other hand was very good. The maid was very friendly and always kept our room very clean. She often stopped us in the hall to ask if we needed fresh towels or anything.
Attached to the hotel was a Chilies Restaurant. It had great drinks and very good food. On the opposite side of the hotel there was a Starbucks Coffee Shop which was great for that hot coffee after that freezing shower we got every morning.
Across the street from the hotel was a Denny's restaurant. I highly recommend that you do not eat there. It smells very badly and the service is very slow if you get any service at all. I witnessed several customers leave after waiting thirty minutes for somebody to take their order.
Nearby there are plenty of good restaurants, one in particular being Keonis. They have wonderful drinks, Thai food and great breakfasts. The wait staff and bartender were very friendly. We ate there daily and had great service the whole time.
Located at Ohana Waikiki West's pool area there is a bar that opens at about eleven in the morning. The bartender is very nice and makes pretty strong drinks. It is a great area to lay back and soak up the sun. The bar also serves food such as sandwiches and stuff.
All in all our stay at the hotel wasn't necessarily bad; it was just hard to endure our very cold showers we had to suffer with the entire time. I'm sure whatever was going on with their plumbing at the time has to be fixed or they wouldn't be running still.
