Hotel Review: Residhome Montevrain Val D'Europe Paris

Apartment Hotel in the Val D'Europe Town Outside Disneyland Paris

Last summer, I booked this hotel via Superbreak dot com. I have a family of 8 people, consisting of 2 adults, 3 children, and three babies in pushchairs. Finding a hotel to suit us can be difficult, and very costly, especially in the Disneyland Paris area.

Thankfully, the area around Disney has been built up into areas, which come together like a town, know as the Val D'Europe. There are apartments and non-Disney hotels in this area, which has it's own train station, linking it with Disney (Marne La Chessy) on one side, and Paris and the Charles De Gaulle airport on the other. The trains include the fast train service TGV which includes the Eurostar, and also the Metro, the equivalent of London Tube network.

In addition to this, there is a massive shopping centre here also, featuring a Disney shop. This stocks all the current Disney lines, so you can buy close to your accommodation, instead of carrying it around all day. The supermarket in the shopping centre is 3 stories high and sells everything from food to clothes, baby items, and has it's own fresh butchers, hot food market, bakery and so on. This is handy for people who book self catering in the apartment hotels nearby, and buy groceries to save money on takeaway food.

Like any town, there are Chinese and Italian restaurants, take away and sit in, whatever you need. Hairdressers, beauticians and post offices are also present, just like any town. The food and items here are cheaper than Disney shops, so staying here is less expensive overall.

The residhome Montevrain Val D'Europe can be found down a side street from the train station. It is a five minute walk from the front of the station where tickets can be bought at the kiosk. The best thing to do is to buy the metro tickets in bulk for discount from Val D'Europe to Marne La Chessy. The reason why is that there is a back entrance with turnstiles at the front door of the hotel, so once you buy your metro tickets, the station is a 30 second walk from the hotel. The travel time to Disney from the station is less then 2 minutes, and a lot less hassle than the Disney shuttle buses, now overcrowded, although free. These shuttle buses transport tourists all around the hotels but can take 45 minutes to get there as there are so many stops, and not as frequent, so overcrowded at peak times of the day.

Check in at the Residhome was simple, and the elevator was directly opposite the reception. Up we went to the seventh floor to our apartment to settle in. On entrance to the apartment, there was a bathroom to the right and a small bedroom with bunk beds to the left. Further in, there was a separate toilet to the right, a double bedroom with full length wardrobe straight ahead, and a living room cum kitchen to the left. In the living room, we had two double sofa beds, a table and chairs, a travel cot, and kitchen bar, with kettle, microwave, hob, fridge, dishwasher and full set of cutlery and plates, cups, pans and utensils. There was also an lcd tv in very room, and a telephone and safe in the double bedroom. There was air conditioning in the apartment, and it was clean and spacious, and including the travel cot, housed all eight of us, and we could even have fitted another person it. This was an advertised apartment for up to eight persons, and for five nights, it cost £580.

The towels were replaced daily, and a vacuum cleaner was stored in a cupboard near the elevator. The cleaner came on request, but called weekly only, and any cleaning during a weeks stay was the responsibility of the guest. This suited us fine as it was clean when we arrived and we only slept there, had supper and breakfast in the hotel. It was great for convenience to the supermarket and we purchased break and ham and cola and other items to make packed lunches. We bought milk and a small box of cereal for breakfast and at night, we treated ourselves at the local pizza or a chinese takeaway.

In addition to this, the basement of the hotel housed a laundry room, and it was possible to wash and dry clothes and iron them if required. As we had babies in our party, this was a bonus.

Overall, the facilities were excellent and I would recommend this hotel to any family.
