Hotel Review: Roost Lodge in Vail, Colorado

Vail's Budget, Affordable, and Economical Ski Lodging Choice

G. Kunkel
Affordable, cheap, and economical are terms not typically used in Vail, Colorado. While Vail Resorts does have the affordable Epic Pass for $599, you'll be paying a premium for close-in parking and any nearby lodging. The Roost Lodge in Vail, Colorado however bucks this trend and makes skiing affordable for a week or weekend in the Vail Valley. Roost Lodge is the best budget lodging available in Vail, Colorado.

Location:

Besides being the most affordable lodging in Vail, Roost Lodge also is easy to find and get to. It is located on the north side of I-70 in West Vail just east of Exit 173 on the Frontage Road. Restaurants and shopping are just two blocks away. The free shuttle to the ski resort is nearby too. Parking is free while staying at Roost Lodge so there's no need to pay the $25.00 parking fee if you can't find a spot in one of the tiny free parking lots around Vail.

Rooms:

Roost Lodge is no-frills budget lodging at its finest. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and Spartan. Updating over the past two years has improved the experience considerably. The rooms facing I-70 however can still be subjected to a great deal of highway noise. Request a room on the backside of the lodge for a quieter stay. For those with pets, pet-friendly rooms are available upon request.

Amenities:

For a budget hotel, Roost Lodge provides a number of amenities. In the morning, there is a complimentary breakfast buffet with coffee, juice, cereal, muffins, pastries, and fresh fruit. In back of the lodge, there is a hot tub for relaxing in after a day on the slopes. If you need to catch up on work, Roost Lodge has free Wi-fi.

Service:

The staff at Roost Lodge is friendly and efficient. They quickly booked my reservation by phone but you can also reserve a room on their website. Room discounts are available by booking online too.

Room rates:

Single and Double rooms start at $69.00/night
Deluxe Rooms start at $89.00/night
Triple Rooms start at $89.00/night
Suites start at $119.00/night

Don't waste your money on expensive lodging at Vail anymore. Forget the five star hotel ratings, concentrate on the world-class skiing instead. Roost Lodge will save money better spent on the nearby nightlife. The free Vail shuttle will get you to and from the nightlife safely too.
