Hotel Review: Wyndham Grand Desert Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada

Can't decide if you want to stay at an ultimate party hotel or a calm homely oasis on your next trip to Las Vegas? Having trouble deciding whether you want to shell out a large sum of money for a lavish room on the Strip or save some money and settle for a bargain hotel that is too far away from all the action and excitement of the typical Vegas setting? Why choose, when you can have the best of both worlds by staying at Wyndham Grand Desert Resort, just a walking distance away from the Strip.

Wyndham Grand Desert is located on East Harmon Avenue in the beautiful and lush Las Vegas and offers great suites that are affordable to college students and business moguls alike. The suites can accommodate several people and can becomes little homes away from homes where resort visitors can take a short breather between all the partying Vegas has to offer.

The suites come with fully-equipped kitchens, dining rooms, spacious bathrooms with hot tubs, bath tubs and showers, and many other necessary amenities a demanding traveler could ask for during his or her stay. While definitely too big for just one person, these suites can become party stations for you and a group of friends on a rambunctious weekend getaway, bachelor or bachelorette party or even a spring break.

Having stayed at both, what I personally would consider, the best and the worst hotels on the Strip, Wyndham Grand Desert Resort is a definite winner in terms of being reasonable in its prices and the value people can get for the prices they pay. In order to confidently recommend the Wyndham to the next visitor who is considering giving Las Vegas a go, I must mention that the reason this resort is so affordable is because it can accommodate up to six people in each of its suites. With some bed-sharing involved, a large group of friends can still situate itself comfortably in each of the suit's rooms and still gather together in the living room for some quality pre-gaming before heading out on the town for the night.

Wyndham is not for the loners or people who are traveling by themselves. It capitalizes on the notion that people come to Las Vegas in groups and it cashes in on the fact that these large groups can afford splitting the price of one suite amongst themselves. The Wyndham Grand Desert experience is about making collective memories.
The good life is certainly at the Wyndham, even when you step outside of your suite's door and venture out to explore the resort's premises. The hotel grounds features multiple pools and hot tubs where you and a group of friends can peacefully nurse your hangover before heading out to party again. You can be sure that at this resort you will not be immersed in an atmosphere of a constant spring break, as many resort visitors are older and more reserved in their partying ways. However, many younger people prefer this atmosphere precisely because it offers a quick escape from the round-the-clock craziness of the Strip, without it feeling like a nursing home. In other words, you will be sure to get a balance of quiet comfort and moderate partying, all the while enjoying the hot desert sun by a pool or in a lounge chair.

Wyndham Grand Desert achieves its stable balance by being mindful that its visitors' main goal of visit is, most likely, for the purpose of spending most of their time on the Las Vegas Strip. Therefore, the Wyndham does not try to provide a slew of in-house entertainment, like many other big hotels do, but rather provides basic, unassuming establishments to get food and an occasional alcoholic beverage. Wyndham is content in leaving up to the big Strip hotels to provide Vegas visitors with all the glitz and glamour of gambling and nightlife attractions, while remaining a more conservative, yet still leisurely and fun, version of a Las Vegas hotel.

The resort's reputation as being one of the more reserved properties in Las Vegas has become an opportunity for it to become an ideal venue to host professional meetings, reunions and social events. While the other hotels and resorts in Las Vegas make the bank on their top-notch bars, lounges and nightclubs, Wyndham Grand Resort takes pride in specializing in accommodating a slightly different type of gatherings. Very suiting of its atmosphere, this hospitable resort provides a wide variety of resources, including conference rooms and auditoriums, to create an unforgettable experience for business professionals and party guests alike.

The bottom line is that if you want to experience a never-ending party from dusk until dawn and during all hours in between, you are better suited to stay at Hard Rock Hotel or Planet Hollywood. If you are looking for dirt cheap prices that can supersede the quality of the hotel experience, Excalibur or Circus Circus or other seedy Strip motels would all be better choices. If you and your friends, however, are looking for a balance of both value and quality, Wyndham comes out as a clear winner in both categories. The room furnishings, the staff and the upkeep of the resort grounds can and will make you feel like you should be paying more than you are, and getting a bang for your buck in Las Vegas is always an experience in itself.
