Northern California is a popular tourist destination because of its rich history. Sacramento has a few sites to see such as the Capital and Old Town. Visitors on vacation to Northern California will probably want to spend a couple days in the Sacramento area. Once you have spent time in Sacramento though you will probably want to spend some time in the Gold Country. In my family every time a kid was going into the 4th grade which is the year they teach California history we went on the California history tour and the Gold Country was very much a part of that tour. The trick to a visit to Northern California to learn about the states history is to find somewhere you can use as your pass of operations that is close to everything so you don't have to keep checking in at different hotels all the time. If Sacramento and the Gold Country is where you want to go then Rancho Cordova is a good place to stay that is close to both destinations.
One good hotel option in Rancho Cordova is the Hotel Sierra. The Hotel Sierra is located at 11260 Point East Drive in Rancho Cordova California. The Hotel Sierra is reasonably priced with suits costing less then $100 and rooms for about $70. While you might expect at these prices to get Motel 6 quality rooms the Hotel Sierra offers a much nicer place to stay then the price would indicate.
In terms of the room it is pretty standard in size. Even the bathrooms are the standard. What makes The Hotel Sierra better then a budget motel like Motel 6 is that it has a good size TV, a refrigerator, and a microwave. If you are going to be using this hotel as a base of operations for your excursions into Sacramento and the Gold Country you can use the microwave to save reheat lunch leftovers or pick up some tv dinners at the nearby store for dinner to save some money. The rooms also offer free wi-fi which is pretty standard in cheaper hotels but for some reasons often costs in the nicer more expensive ones.
Many places offer a free breakfast and most are ok. The Hotel Sierra also offers a free breakfast. While the Hotel Sierra may not have the very best free breakfast I have ever had it does offer the best for a hotel anywhere near its price range. The breakfast they offer is no continental breakfast. You actually get to order what you want and they actually have a real chef that makes your food after you order it. The only drawback is that I hear during the crowded times the breakfast can be a trial with so many people trying to get breakfast and only one chef and a few helpers trying to keep up. It would be good if they had a small continental breakfast or even just some simple options like some fruit so people in a hurry can just grab a bite and not wait for breakfast.
Overal the Hotel Sierra is inexpensive but gives you a much nicer place to stay then you would expect for the price. The Hotel Sierra has one of the best free breakfasts around. The Hotel Sierra is right in the heart of historic Northern California not to far from Sacramento, Gold Country, or any of the other sites. For guests coming to the Sacramento and Gold Country region I would recommend the Hotel Sierra.
