Hotel Sorella: Houston's Other CityCentre

Lisa Carey
Most people think of downtown Houston for dining, dancing and accommodations, but actually Houston offers those special events, activities, accommodations and amenities throughout the area and none is becoming more popular than Houston's CityCentre (formerly Town and Country Mall). With dozens of stores, boutiques, first class dining and the Norris Conference Center it is no wonder that an upscale, modern hotel like Hotel Sorella is also located there.

The Hotel Sorella Accommodations

Entering Hotel Sorella you are first struck by the very modern theme and decor. What is most impressive though before you even get to your room is right there on the main floor with the lobby. A comfortable seating area, mini kitchen, and office services as well as the area where your complimentary breakfast is served are available to all guests free of charge. The group of four elevators means even during busy dinner times there is very little wait time.

The modern theme and deco is carried through in the hallways and guest rooms, some would say even minimalist. It's quite a bit different from the historic architecture and design of the Hotel Icon.

In our double room, the beds were quite comfortable and there were all the room amenities that one would need including a desk, cable television, and coffee maker. The mini bar can be tempting, but note, that if you pick it up and hold it for longer than 30 seconds it will appear on your room charges, so you may want to reign in your curiosity. However, quite possible the best part of our double room was the comfortable seating next to the wall sized window that allowed us a look out on the CityCentre Plaza where during the day we saw children playing and at night the fires were light, Christmas lights were twinkling and the dining establishments beckoned.

Hotel Sorella Amenities

The Hotel Sorella offers approximately 250 rooms, penthouses and suites available for one night or longer stays. Those with business to conduct or relocating in the area will find the suites provide them with all the comforts of home as well as an excellent location and easy (by Houston standards) travel to the Energy Corridor and West Chase as well as downtown and the suburbs of Katy and Sugarland.

It also offers special event planning, meeting space, exclusive spa and fitness center same day laundry, safety deposit boxes, postal and shipping services, city shuttle and taxi's, flat panel TV's, daily housekeeping services, doorman and bellman service, multi lingual staff, and is handicap accessible.

Hotel Sorella Dining

Room service is available, but with CityCentre offerings of so many different dining establishments like Flora and Muse and RA Sushi within a few minutes walking in a friendly and safe atmosphere you are tempted to get out and about.

It also is home to Monnalisa Bar which offers cocktails, wines and light dining both inside and out. Step outside and enjoy the infinity pool and luxurious, comfortable seating.

Bistro Alex offers a more formal dining setting with menu items that are special as they appeal to the gourmand and combine the flavors of Texas and Creole cuisine. Contemporary and sophisticated, no ties are necessary as you can dine in elegance and comfort. It's the perfect place for a business meeting, special event or quiet dinner.

Bistro Bar is the latest addition to the Hotel Sorella's "menu" with both indoor and outdoor seating. This is soon to be the hot spot for those walking around the CityCentre shopping as they can experience conversation, relaxation and delectable dining treats. Chef Juan Carlos Gonzalez brings together the "walking food" of Puerto Rico, Texas treats and New Orleans and creates light dining dishes that will keep you coming back. Be sure to make a reservation for the "Chef's Bar" and try many of these items at the same time with a group of friends.

Not only is the Hotel Sorella about location, location, location, but those visiting Houston as well as those looking for a unique, overnight staycation or getaway will appreciate the amenities and affordability, as well as the opportunity to stroll, shop and dine in Houston's CityCentre.
