However -- this past weekend, which is the weekend of June 11, 2011, this hotel let me down. Not only did they let me down, they let down every senior citizen, military active or retired traveler and every government employee.
After double checking with the corporate manager upon check out on the morning of June 12th, (just to make sure I had the story straight), I feel it is important to let all know the grave injustice done to the above mentioned groups.
The owner of this hotel decided to stop all discounts offered. No AARP, no Government rates, no senior citizen, AAA, or military rates were to be given to anyone for any reason. Now, the manager on duty stated that this was just for the weekend because they were so overbooked -- . However, the person checking folks in the night of the 11th stated it had been put in place for a week. Hmmmmm -- -- .
So, let's see. Could it be, (please tell me NO), that this owner submitted the discounted rates on the books to be reimbursed in some way, while actually collecting full fees? No, say it isn't so. Let's see again, maybe this owner is not a patriot, therefore cancelling any discount to military and government personnel, then throwing out discounts to seniors too. Refuse one, refuse all. Surely not!!
Perhaps the owner decided that since the Dumas, Texas La Quinta was full for the weekend he/she would cash in and make a little extra money for the summer. The discount percentage is not a lot; however any little bit helps us travelers, and keeps us coming back to our favorites. Now, THAT'S the key here -- I don't have to go back to this hotel. Anyone reading this that also supports these discounts for these various organizations also does not have to say at this hotel. There are so many nice alternatives in the Dumas area, such as Best Western, which is nice (I've stayed there), as well as the Days Inn which is fresh and clean (been there too). The Hampton Inn next to the la This Quinta is new and we travelers need to give it a try.
Dear readers, shouldn't we put our feet down squarely in front of any other hotel in Dumas, Texas, opting to stay elsewhere, anywhere, except at the La Quinta? If '˜they' can take away the small discount, -- we can take away the full payment.
It is a shame when a policy that is supported corporate-wise can be changed by an individual with the only possible benefit being monetary gain.
It is also a shame that the owner was no-where to be found on the hotel grounds to speak face-to-face to me or the military personnel I witnessed, in full uniform, being told there was no longer a military discount.
Shame, shame, shame -- ..
