Hotel Vacation Packages for Dogs

Dee Boston
Well, I knew that hotels have been welcoming dogs for a long time. They offer activities for pets as long as the owners or handlers are guests at the hotel. Most of the hotel franchise packages cater to smaller dogs less than 25 pounds. Boutique hotels can be even more flexible in accommodating larger dogs, going up to about 100 pounds. I hear that many of the dogs seem to be better behaved than some of the (human) children.

And now the hotels seemed to have really kicked it up a notch or two. Many of the higher end hotels have staff that will walk the dog, so that the owner can sleep in or attend to other affairs. Some of the more luxurious hotels even have staff assigned as concierges specifically for dog activities. Following are some of the most unique amenities.

The dog can be escorted by limo to a recording studio to have a professionally produced CD keepsake to take home. Yep, the package includes, along a stay at the hotel, massage and a personalized CD case.

There seems to be no limit on seasonal availability or time of year. There is a wide range of choice. This can include almost everything from ski vacation packages with sledding to beachside surf and turf packages.

- A dog beach surfing outing where the dog will actually receive personal instruction from surf professional. The dog also receives surfer shorts and is allowed to keep the bandana as part of the package. The dog may also receive a surf and turf dinner - whatever that is.

Or, check for the pet cabanas so that your doggie doesn't get over exposed to the sun. Then there is the on leash and off leach hiking excursions with a professional guide. Fresh baked healthy dog treats upon return to the hotel. Your dog can receive limo roundtrip travel to and from the destination (with the owner of course).

And there are pet menus, like a bow-wow brunch. If the dog has special dietary needs, a dedicated chef may prepare that.

Well, the sky is (near) the limit for hotel accommodations for dogs. So if you'd like to travel with your dog, top of the line amenities are just a phone call away. By the way, the pet owner (not the dog) must actually make the reservation.

Oh, just some quick reminders to think about when packing for vacation with your dog. Just throw in a favorite blanket or t-shirt that smells like home. Another item can be a towel for paws and when giving the dog a bath. It's just a courteous thing to do upon return from an outdoor activity, especially at a higher-end hotel. Remember, also to bring along your dog's vaccination records as well.
