Hottest Baby Shower Presents for 2009

The Top Trends in the Nursery

Even given the current economical conditions, there's one area where people will splurge, buying cute presents for a newborn. If you're stuck for an idea but invited to an upcoming baby shower, consider one of these "hot" products. Many times the couple to be registers, but often, especially if you're dealing with first time parents, they have no clue what they'll need.

Purchase homemade from Etsy.com

That's right, thanks to Etsy, even the not so crafty amongst us can give genuine homemade presents. Homemade always means more, even if it wasn't made in your home. Etsy has a large baby's and kids section, simply search the site for homemade products. For instance, an intricate baby blanket, or a personalized name hanging for the nursery make great gifts.

And, if you happen to be crafty, go ahead and make a present at your home. Baby blankets, even though babies shouldn't sleep with them are a good present. Baby hats and baby booties can also be made easier. There's no better time to learn how to knit or crochet.

The essentials: Diapers and Gift Cards

So, we are in a recession, or exiting a recession depending who you believe. Parents can use just the basics more than anything right now. Consider buying a package of diapers and a package of wipes. Believe me, they'll be much more appreciated than the $100 pair of baby Nikes new mom unwraps.

The only downfall about buying diapers is the rate of baby growth. Every baby is a little different and the expecting parents might get more diapers than they can use in a size. This is where gift cards come in handy. Write a note telling the parents to buy some needed supplies with your gift. Make sure that you purchase a card from a retailer that is close to the expecting parents home to make using it more convenient.

Anything that vibrates

Fans of the show "Sex and the City" might remember the episode where Miranda is at the end of her rope trying to calm her newborn. Finally, a neighbor gives her a vibrating bouncy seat and baby suddenly calms down.

Your friend or family member will appreciate the seat late at night when trying to get baby to sleep. Just remember to research the easiest to use brands by reading product reviews. Also check the registry and try to find out if the parents to be already have a seat. If not for sure, remember to include a gift receipt.
