Hottest Bridesmaids Dresses of 20078

Kathy Speers
Bridesmaids dresses have come a long way since the days of once-worn-never-to-be-seen-again tradition. Today, brides are choosing more flattering and multiple occasion dresses for their best ladies. Below are some of the hottest trends we've seen this past year that are sure to last.

Strapless

While this style is not flattering to all, it is a pretty and elegant choice that comes in a variety of necklines. After Six style#6542 is a gorgeous tea length strapless gown perfect for an afternoon wedding or cocktail reception. The neckline is cut straight and the dress features a matching ribbon trim accent at the empire waist. Visit www.aftersix.com for color choices and other style ideas.

A more formal strapless is the ball gown by Alfred Angelo, style#6495. This dress features a dropped waist which gorgeously flaunts a small waist and the strapless bodice is darted to cup and mold for a perfect fit. Find stores that care this beautiful gown at www.alfredangelo.com or see the resource section below for stores in the Chicago area.

Ribbons

Ribbons not only define the natural waist they also serve as the perfect accent. Whether thin, wide, embroidered, long, or just at the waist, brides are opting for this accessory because of how many choices it provides. Bill Levkoff's collection for 2008 is brimming with stunning gowns that feature a ribbon accent. My favorite is style#607 not only because the featured gown in Euro Sable (chocolate brown) and pink are my signature colors, but because the dress is an instant classic. Simple A-line strapless with a long, wide ribbon in complementary colors that ties in front and a gorgeous slight back sweep. This gown is traditional and simple and yet still contemporary enough for the bride that wants today's look. I love the Levkoff collection because the ribbon is used in so many different ways that each style is stunning and offers brides a different take on the accent. See www.billlevkoff.com for more information.

Black

While pink (in all shades) reigned supreme this year, black made a very strong showing. Brides are eschewing traditional wedding colors and myths and choosing this elegant shade for their elegant ladies. Another plus is that this is truly a color that bridesmaids will wear again and again. Add to that the instant black-tie affair that this choice evokes and you have a very satisfied bridal party. My favorites in this shade are by Alvina Valenta, specifically style#9878. Made of taffeta, this A-line beauty features an assymetrical waist and strapless, scoop neckline. This dress screams vintage bombshell and will catapult any bride that selects this dress for her bridesmaids into the Bridal Hall of Fame. It does come in other colors but the cut of the dress makes this a perfect choice for black. Find it locally at the locations listed below or visit www.alvinavalenta.com for other stores near you.
