According to hairstylist Guido at the 2010 Marc Jacobs show, this type of hair cut (long and layered) is flattering on all women with all hair types and all face shapes. He says that the hair should be cut to about two and a half inches below the collarbone, in order to see the neck and not 'drag you down.' He likes to place a few face-framing layers below the chin for softness and cut into the ends to add a youthful flair. Despite all the business at the 2010 Marc Jacobs show, Guido took the time to cut a few models hair into this style because he knew it would be a key player in this falls fashion trends.
Guido explains in his interview with Angelique Serrano for Allure Magazine (October 2010) that fine hair should have fewer, chunkier layers, while thick hair can handle more layers all around. He also suggests that side bangs should be left a bit asymmetrical and cut a little bit longer than the nose for a cool, trendy look.
To really make this look Fall 2010, forget about pulling out your straightening balm and your flat iron. Instead, use just a touch of mousse, a hair dryer and a large round brush to get a freer, flowing look. Don't try to make the ends perfect, just let them go where they want. Or, use a large barrel curling iron on already dry hair to make big loose curls. After they have cooled, come through with your fingers or a large brush to make big, loose, beachy waves. A messy side part and slightly rumpled locks that look effortless will be the key to this falls hottest hairstyles for teenage girls.
Don't despair if your hair is already curly. With hair still damp, apply a little bit of mousse create loose pincurls. You'll get a soft wavy curl that doesn't look overdone like a crisp, spiral curl does this fall.
Other styling options for this hairstyle include pulling hair back in a loose pony tail. You can leave out a section of hair to wrap around the ponytail holder to hide it for a more glamorous look. Or, push hair back away from the face with a thin headband, leaving your bangs to pouf a little at the front. Better yet, tease hair just a bit and pull back into a loose, messy bun or chignon for the ultimate in roughed up glamor. Spritz on a bit of hair spray and you are ready to go!
