Hottest Makeup Looks and Products for Spring 2010

Nina Rotz
I love everything about spring, including warm weather and sunshine. Spring cleaning starts throughout the house, including in my makeup collection cabinet. I am a makeup addict, and yes, I have a cabinet full of beauty products. Makeup lovers love spring because beauty companies launch entire color collections; eye shadows, eyeliners, blushes, lip stains, mascara, nail polish and every other part of your body that requires a touch of makeup. Like with fashion, companies and consumers follow trends and the hottest looks. We get previews of spring makeup trends during New York Fashion Week. The designer and makeup artist tease us with what are sure to be the most wanted colors and palettes of the season.

Spring 2010 makeup trends are about fresh and vibrant colors. Out with the fake bronze looks and in with glowing and clean skin. Here are some of the makeup trends to watch for, as well as products that can help you get the spring look.

Spring 2010 Trends: Lips
I see amber, plum and pink tones for lips and lipgloss spring 2010 makeup trend. Purple and peach lips were all the rage during 2010 New York Fashion Week, especially at Venexiana and Carlos Miele events.

I am not on the warm plum lips bandwagon, seems too bold and rave-like for my taste. Peach lips would perfect a "girl next door" or "beach bunny" look. Light amber or pink lipgloss and lip stain is something a woman can tone down during the day or wear with dramatic eyes at night.

Stila Jewl Lip Glaze Trio (here) has the color combination for spring. You can wear each color on its own or over lipstick.

Smashbox Heartbreaker Lip Shine (here) can be used on its own or over a nude lip pencil, according to Smashbox.com website.

Napoleon Perdis Havana Cream Natural (here) is a nude color lipstick for spring. Combine it with a clear non-sticky lipgloss for a clean and natural look.

Spring 2010 Trends: Eyes
Look for berry, eggplant, gold and jet black eye shadow colors to help you turn up the heat. The 'smokey eyes' effect is still the look women want. Spring 2010 brings shades of purple, pink, black and gold eye shadows. Women still want that mysterious yet sophisticated look of smokey eyes, be it in a cream or powder eye shadow form.

CoverGirl Smoky ShadowBlast (here) is a duo cream eyeshadow. One tip is the eyelid color while the other is a pointed shadow stick.

Stila Jewel Eye Shadow Palette (here) is just what you need to create a hot spring look. Blend the four shades or wear them individually.

Orglamix Smokin Haute Eye Collection (here) is a pure mineral eye shadow kit. The kit contains six colors that can be worn individually or blended for a hot smoky eye effect.

Eyeliners are going bolder in color and line thickness in spring 2010. Colorful undereye liners were present at New York Fashion Week, with Jill Stuart and Erin Fetherston shows featuring these bold trends. At Erin Fetherston's show, the models were wearing blended and smudged undereye liners, bottom eyelid only and no liner on the top eyelid.

You can recreate this trend by drawing a precision line on your lower eyelid and blending it with a flat brush. A cotton swab will work well to smudge the eyeliner, but it will not give you a thick stroke. Do not use a liquid or cream eye liner if you wish to wear it as a blended undereye liner, a pencil liner will blend easier on the bottom eyelid.

Spring 2010 Trends: Mascara
Eyelashes were big in 2009, but spring 2010 makeup trends want you to have even bigger and fuller eyelashes. This makeup trend is all about "bigger is better". Bigger, fuller and longer lashes are such a hit that you can buy great products at affordable prices - without paying for high-end brands.

Maybelline Colossal Mascara (here) produces good results without clumping. I have personally used this product and it does produce promised results.

L'OREAL Extra-Volume Collagen Plumping Mascara (here) works well to produce thick eyelashes but it does clump. I suggest removing clumps by brushing with a mascara wand.

CoverGirl Lash Blast (here) is one of my favorite mascaras for long and brushed eyelashes. I sometimes use Lash Blast over Colossal Mascara.

Spring 2010 Trends: Bronzer or Blush?
Save your bronzer for the summer time. Spring 2010 trend calls for fresh and airy looks only a sheer blush can deliver. A blush product to look out for this spring is Fresh Picked Allover Colour by Clinique (here). The highlight and blush limited edition multi-toned palette is pressed in a fruit-inspired pattern. Clinique Fresh Picked Allover Colour is a gorgeous palette and will give your cheeks that rosy spring glow. I have personally used this item and look forward to writing a full review.

Check out Illamasqua Powder Blusher in Expose (here) if you only want a spring blush and not an all over color.

Spring 2010 Trends: Nail Polish
Nothing says trendy like an OPI nail polish collection. OPI Alice in Wonderland is Mad as a Hatter. That is actually the name of their black-based multicolored glitter nail polish color. The other three are Absolutely Alice, Off with Her Red and Thanks So Muchness.

OPI Hong Kong Collection is launching in spring 2010 as well. The color collection is all about shimmering bold and vibrant red, green, blue, gold, orange and purple colors. Check out OPI nail polish colors at Sephora.com or Opi.com.

Sephora.com is carrying many of the products mentioned or is gearing up to launch the full collections in the next few weeks. Check out more on Spring 2010 hottest makeup trends and makeup campaigns at Stila.com, Smashbox.com, Covergirl.com, Clinique.com and OPI.com.

Thanks. You are the perfect model for all of these. I would love to wear pink this summer, however, I think a mauve or deep plum would look better.
