Hottest Temperatures on Earth by Continent

These are the hottest temperatures on planet Earth listed by continent. So for each continent the hottest temperature ever recorded is listed. Obviously the hottest place on planet Earth is listed and listed first and then the rest of the continents are listed in order of hottest temperatures ever recorded. Except for Antarctica the rest of the continents all have very high hottest temperature records and the average for the six continents is a sweltering 127.1 degrees.

Africa and Hottest Temperature Ever Recorded on Earth

Al 'Aziziyah, Libya - 136 degrees

On September 22, 1922 a temperature of 136 degrees was recorded at Al 'Aziziyah in northwestern Libya which is the hottest temperature ever recorded on Earth to date.

North America

Death Valley, California - 134 degrees

On July 10, 1913 at Furnace Creek in Death Valley, California a temperature reading of 134 degrees was recorded for the hottest all time temperature ever recorded to date in North America and 2nd hottest all time in the world.

Asia

Matraba, Kuwait - 130 degrees

On July 16, 2010 a temperature of 130 degrees was recorded in the Matraba, Kuwait area in the northeastern Arabian Peninsula which is the highest temperature ever recorded in Asia.

Australia

Oodnadatta, South Australia - 123 degrees

On January 2, 1960 a temperature reading of 123 degrees was recorded in the small South Australian town of Oodnadatta which is the hottest properly recorded temperature ever in the continent of Australia.

South America

Villa de Maria del Rio Seco, Argentina - 120.4 degrees

On January 2, 1920 a temperature reading of 120.4 degrees was recorded in the small city of Villa de Maria del Rio Seco in central Argentina. That is the hottest temperature to date ever recorded in South America.

Europe

Catenanuova, Italy - 119.3 degrees

On August 10, 1999 a temperature reading of 119.3 degrees was recorded in the town of Catenanuova on the island of Sicily in Italy. That is the hottest temperature ever recorded to date in Europe.

Antarctica

Vanda Station - 59 degrees

On January 5, 1974 a temperature reading of 59 degrees was recorded at the Vanda Station which is a research station located on the Scott Coast of Antarctica. That is the hottest temperature reading ever recorded in Antarctica. Vanda Station was manned year round until 1995 when it became an automated weather station and it is unmanned today except for in the summer due to environmental reasons.
