My First LEGO Duplo Set

I think my husband enjoys playing with the "My First LEGO Duplo Set" more than my son does. My son always enjoyed playing with the mega bloks 80 piece set. Therefore, when he turned two years old I went out and bought him the My First Lego Duplo Set. I thought it was adorable. It came with its own carrying tub. The set included 33 building pieces. I thought that 33 pieces would be more than enough pieces for my son to have fun building with. When we opened the tub and took out all of the pieces, I had to recount them. I thought maybe we were short some pieces. I checked through all of them and counted 33 pieces. How come 33 pieces sounded like a lot but can look like only a few? This wasn't going to be good. There were just not enough pieces for my son to play with.

I ended up going on the lego.com website to look into purchasing some more lego pieces to add to his collection. At first, it was hard to navigate through the website because they really promote the legos that build a specific design. I wasn't looking for a specific design. I just wanted extra lego pieces to put in his bucket. After a few minutes, I finally found what I was looking for. It was just a box of 50 extra lego pieces called "Brick Starters". No special designs, just plain pieces. It was perfect I ordered it right away. I received my extra lego pieces within a week of ordering them. Now I think I have too many pieces! The bucket won't close when I combined the original 33 pieces to the new box of extra pieces. It's ok though, I rather my son have too many than not enough.

The original 33-piece set includes a window, a cat, and a flower. My son absolutely loves the window and the cat. He loves when my husband sits with him and they build garages from the pieces. My son then takes his cars from his car collection and plays with the cars in the garage. He loves this toy so much. He is getting really good at piecing them together. At first, he would get frustrated because the pieces are a lot smaller than the mega blox pieces. I thought he would lose his patience quickly and that would be end of this toy. I was wrong. He just sat and patiently practiced putting them together. Now he is an old pro at it.

The recommended age for this toy is anywhere from 18 months up to 5 years old. I would have to agree with this recommendation. Now that my son is two, the blocks are getting really easy to put together and create something wonderful. He also loves to clean up the blocks by himself. We sing the clean up song and one by one, he puts them away. He likes to separate them first.

The set that I purchased for him is in a green tub. Since then I have noticed Target selling them in blue and pink too. They are selling them for $19.99. You could find it a little cheaper at the Amazon.com website for $14.99. Toys R Us is selling them for $16.99. I have found them to be very durable and even though they are plastic, I haven't had any problems with them. I love them, my husband loves them, and most importantly of all, my son loves them!
