House Bill 1804 Deals with Illegal Aliens in Oklahoma

Beverly Bright
Last week I was asked if I believed that the Ku Klux Klan was returning to prominance and would it be as troublesome as it was in the 60's and 70's? (I was asked the question because I am old enough to have witnessed the racial difficulties in the 60's. Yes, I was in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1962 when the manditory busing of school students was incorporated and the National Guard was standing on the street corners with armed rifles.) What's this all about? There had been a news article on the rising membership of the Ku Klux Klan in Oklahoma. Since I did not have the necessary information to respond to the question, I decided to do some research on the topic. The problem.....Illegal immigration in Oklahoma

Enter House Bill 1804

House Bill number 1804 was signed into law on May 11 and it took effect on November 1, 2007 in Oklahoma. Since the bill was passed in May of this year there have been numerous prayer vigials, court filings, church and civil protests.

According to the Oklahoma Senate records Oklahoma taxpayers paid nearly 10 million last year in medical costs for illegal aliens, up 154% from 3.8 million in 2003. Most of the illegals here do not have any intent to blend into our culture nor obey our laws and have established their own "cities" within our cities creating trouble areas for the law enforcement officials. Until now police have had no authority to do anything with the illegals.

This bill gives the authorities the right to check the immigration status of anyone arrested in Oklahoma and if found to be illegal, gives the authorities the right to deportation. The news reported that after a "gang related incident" in Oklahoma City several illegals were deported to countries all over the world, not just Mexico. The police cannot and will not "hunt" for anyone, just in the normal course of business they can now take legal action.

The bill stops illegals from obtaining goverment identification, such as food stamps, low income housing, social security, medicare and filing for schooling assistance.

The bill also makes it illegal for any U.S. Citizen to house, employ or otherwise harbor or transport an illegal alien. The employers in the State are now responsible for who they employ. This is a very important part of the bill which got the attention of many people in Oklahoma!

Some friends in the construction industry were especially horrified. They told me that since the bill had gone into effect they have lost their construction crews and ALL THEIR TOOLS as well. Well, that should tell you something..... When I asked if the work was getting done, their response was yes, but now the superintendents are having to do the work. Oh well. I do not believe the price of housing construction will increase because of the lack of labor force here. Usually in "down times" the "riffraff" are "weeded out" and that is very good for the consumers! The construction industry is always full of individuals looking to make a quick buck at the expense of the consumer.

As to the rise of the KKK, there will always be certain individuals that object to their rights being taken away from them. I believe that especially to be true here in the central United States. When any group or government entity forces its beliefs and desires unwillingly on others, a revolt is possible. How and when that revolt happens is anyone's guess. Maybe something will happen to pull the American people back together for one cause....survival. Many believe we are in a battle for that very cause right now and obviously the people of Oklahoma do not desire to be overrun by illegial aliens in the process. God bless our troops. God bless America.

As a Hispanic who is blessed enough to be born here, i can see why the illegals want to be here. HOWEVER, i do not feel bad for the Government both local and above. The U.S. has had immigration laws for years and years. It's their fault they let it get to this point. They act like they woke and all of a sudden, there's millions of immigrants here. No, the government knew.

Also, I'm sorry that some of the countries where these people come from is so bad, but you need to learn to come here the right way. Don't sneak in and expect not to get caught.

Really, it's an issue with both sides. & yes, they're illegal but remember, they're human too. There is a way to do work and still be civil about it.

Thank you for sharing your research. Perhaps Ok. does not need the KKK today. The immigration bill perhaps will help us to realize there are better ways to share our lives without hiding behind secret societies. What little I remember about KKK was secrecy and violence. Neither of these has any place in my life today!
