House Episode Review: Brave Heart

Steve Helmer
I am so glad they aren't showing any other new episodes of House until after baseball season. After waiting out the extra innings of last night's American League Championship game, I can honestly say I don't want to have to do that again.

I will, however, say the episode "Brave Heart" proved to be somewhat worth the wait.

As far as the case is concerned, it really wasn't anything overly special. A police officer was turning 40 and, because his dad and grandfather both died of heart failure at that age, he was concerned the same would happen to him. Adding to this is the revelation he has a son that may or may not have the same genetic condition; assuming he has one.

What will stick out in my mind from this though is the scene where he apparently dies and then comes back to life in the middle of his autopsy. With Halloween about a week away, that was a great twist to what could have become yet another forgettable case.

While I'm not normally a fan of some of the little side stories this show has going on, I will admit the one involving Chase killing that ruthless dictator a couple weeks ago has my interest. He seemed perfectly fine with it when it happened but the guilt is finally starting to set in; affecting everything from his job to his marriage. I'm curious if he will follow that priest's advice and turn himself in or if the show will take him down a different path (he's already starting to drink).

I'm not sure I liked the whole "House hearing voices" thing. Because of the case and the story involving Chase, it didn't really develop in my opinion so the revelation it is Wilson's voice coming through a vent didn't have the same impact it could have.

Also, what was up with Cuddy once again caving in and forging House's time card so he can get his medical license back? With enablers like that, it's no wonder he became a drug addict.

I'm not sure this show is as good as it once was. But, at least it is getting back to the basics (with the original cast) and focusing more on cases. So, I do feel it was worth watching; even if I had to wait almost an extra hour to see it.
