House MD Season Six, Episode Eight "Ignorance is Bliss" Summary/Recap

House MD season six episode eight, "Ignorance is Bliss" features a patient made so miserable by intelligence that he intentionally makes himself dumb to be happy. We also see more of House and Cuddy's romance and the aftermath of Chase's decision to not follow Cameron when she leaves the hospital.

WARNING: The following is a full summary of the events in House MD season six episode eight "Ignorance is Bliss". Naturally expect it to spoil the episode if you haven't seen it.

House MD season six episode eight, 'Ignorance is Bliss" begins in a book store with a genius physicist for some reason delivering books rather than writing them still. The book store clerk asks the man to autograph one the books he has written and the genius delivery boy finds his hands don't work followed by visual disturbances. He also has a cough. He naturally finds himself the patient of this week's House MD episode.

The team quickly diagnosis the patient discovering he needs his spleen removed. Chase does the surgery only to have the genius patient of season six, episode eight suffer a stroke.

House decides shortly after accepting the new case in episode eight that he is going to try to break up Cuddy and Lucus. Wilson wants to no part of it and House plans on crashing Cuddy's Thanksgiving dinner. After trying the phone book fails, House tries to trick Cuddy into inviting him to the dinner herself by doing clinic duty. He is assumingly successful and obtains and invitation to dinner.

Meanwhile the team harasses Chase expecting him to be beat up about Cameron leaving him. Chase however does not want to talk about it. The team searches the patient's home to find a hidden bottle of vodka. This leads them to suspect liver damage. House makes thirteen and Taub stay on Thanksgiving to test the patient's liver which turns out to be healthy unlike his kidney's and Taub's marriage which begins to crumble due to Taub's rejoining House's team in season six, episode seven, "Team Work".

House leaves for Thanksgiving to attend Cuddy's family dinner only to discover Cuddy tricked him sending him to an empty address. House goes home and breaks into Lucus's apartment. He gets drunk waiting for Lucus to return and drunkenly expresses his love for Cuddy to Lucus. Lucus in reaction pretends to leave Cuddy so as not to stand between House and her. Cuddy tells House that they have broken up but that she will never be with him.

Thirteen and Taub confirm the patients kidney's have failed and House realizes that he is a DXM addict and "robofrys" on cough syrup. The patient feels he is incapable of being happy while intelligent because his wife's IQ is so much lower than his own. The drugs place him in a stupefied state keeping his life happy. The team filters the patient's blood thinking they have found the cure only for him to lose feeling in his legs shortly after.

House berates the team trying to find a new diagnosis. He takes it a step to far seemingly though when making a crack about Cameron to Chase. Chase decks House in the face and leaves. House then attempts to have the patient analyze his own data and during their conversation is led to the diagnosis for House MD season six, episode eight " Ignorance Bliss". It turns out the patient had attempted to kill himself twelve years earlier by jumping from the rough of his college. The attempted failed clearly but left his with three broken ribs which tore his spleen into sixteen pieces. Each piece had become a new spleen. The team's original diagnosis that was cured by a spleen removal was correct; however they only removed one spleen being unaware of the others.

They cure the patient who then returns to his old cough medicine stupification so that he can be happy with his wife. He plans to not let her know he is continuing to do so. The patient of House MD season six, episode eight "Ignorance is Bliss" is not the only one deceiving others. Chase admits to House he hit him to make the other team members stop bothering him about Cameron. If they think he may hit anyone who mentions her, they won't mention her. Taub takes a picture of House's nose and tells his wife he hit House so that she will forgive him for missing Thanksgiving. House discovers that Cuddy tricked him and Lucus and her had not actually broke up.

House MD season six, episode either "Ignorance is Bliss ends with Cuddy telling Lucus how she knows House Knows but thinks he will move on now knowing he cannot break the couple up.
