The February 28, 2011 episode of "House, M.D." starts off at a crime scene with a man scrubbing vast amounts of blood off the floor at a crime scene. Switching scenes to a restaurant the same man is now clean and dressed in a suit meeting a beautiful woman (his wife) for dinner. Soon, though, their dinner is interrupted as the man appears to be having some kind of attack in "Recession Proof."
As the episode continues we learn that the patient lives two lives because the recession took his fancy real estate job and he never told his wife. Not only that, but House's team finds a bottle of Vicodin in the patient's desk at his office that he does not have a prescription for. Because the lies make it harder for the team to treat him, Masters and Dr. Chase insist on talking to the patient alone, without his wife in the room, where they also find out that he has maxed out all their credit cards, took out a second mortgage on their house, and sold all their stocks unbeknown to his wife.
While the patient's symptoms increase and progress, Dr. House has another important decision to make about whether to go to a big gala Friday night where his girlfriend Dr. Cuddy is receiving an award. Due to his past, none of his team or his best friend Dr. Wilson believes that he is going to be able to go without making some kind of scene that will embarrass Cuddy. Wilson actually tells House to "show up and behave." Needless to say, House's next move is to audition a famous mariachi band to show up at the gala for his own amusement.
During one of the teams brainstorming sessions, House nicknames Taub and Foreman Bert and Ernie after the "Sesame Street" characters because they are now roommates that seem to always be bickering. With Dr. Taub's ex-wife Rachel moving on in her new relationship, Dr. Foreman agrees to allow a depressed Taub to cook dinner for them that night only to regret his decision later as they both spend a lot of time in the bathroom over the next 24 hours due to the spoiled food Dr. Taub cooked for them.
In the end Wilson finds House at a small bar, drunk, and tries to talk him out of breaking up with Cuddy. As usual House doesn't listen to his best friend and ends up at Dr. Cuddy's anyway only to profess that even though she makes him a worse doctor and he may lose more patients in the future, that she is worth it to him and he loves her.
