"House" Premieres with a Pain in Hugh Laurie's Side

The Fox Broadcast Co premiered the much awaited episode of "House" last week. Viewers cheered and jeered last season as they finally got to see the anticipated union of "House" star Hugh Laurie and Dr. Cuddy, played by Lisa Edelstein. Could the writer's offer any more twists to keep viewers interested at this point?

Their answer, to keep viewers interested, was to give Dr. House another pain in his side. The pain is not literal, of course, but in the form of a young, brilliant medical student, played by Amber Tamblyn. Miss Masters is hired by Dr. Cuddy after House has been procrastinating from replacing "13."

Miss Masters, who graduated high school at 15, is awkward and shy around Dr. House, who she considers a legend. This quickly changes as the team takes on the challenge of diagnosing a Senators Aide, just days before an election.

Dr. Gregory House Battles Wits

Dr. House with his ever present charm tries to battle wits with the young med student over every situation, only to find out that she does have spunk, and a lot of medical knowledge! He also battles it out with Dr. Cuddy over allowing him to fire the young med student. Much to Houses annoyance, Cuddy refuses to allow the firing.

Miss Masters is quick to discover that the medical ethics she learned in all the medical school books do not mean a lot when working on Dr. House's team. She continually argues medical ethics and how to handle the patient, much to House's amusement and annoyance.

In a classic "House" style, he belittles Miss Masters every chance he gets and fires and rehires her multiple times over the hour's span of the show. Seemingly undaunted by House's gruffness and "lack of medical ethics" she continues to meet him argument for argument.

Dr. House complains to Cuddy that the newest member of his team is like "the love child of Einstein and Mary Poppins." A grinning Cuddy advises him to "deal with it." As the season unfolds, we are sure to view many more circumstances of this young med student becoming a royal pain in Dr. Gregory House's side.

Will She be Good For "House?"

Only time will tell how this young med student is accepted into House's team and into the viewer's living rooms. One thing is for sure, she will continue to be a pain in Hugh Laurie's side, as the two of them battle wits as to the proper way to practice medicine.

It will be an interesting season, simply to see who teaches who. And where do we think Dr. Cuddy and the newly developing romance will fit into all of this pain and battling? Will the romance continue, or will House prove to be a pain in her side too? We are just going to have to watch and see! One thing for sure, the writer's are going to have fun with this one!

"House" airs on Friday nights at 8pm ET on Fox television. Be sure to tune in or set your DVR. The pain in Dr. House's side is sure to continue!

Amber is so talented. She'll give House a run for his money.
