House Resolution Exemplifies America's Lopsided Support for Israel

Wally Sparks
In a lopsided show of solidarity, Representative Nancy Pelosi has introduced House Resolution 34, which is being proposed to recognize "Israel's right to defend itself against attacks from Gaza, reaffirming the United States' strong support for Israel, and supporting the Israeli-Palestine peace process." Right now as the battle rages on in Gaza, Israeli forces are using weaponry that has been bought and paid for by American taxpayers.

By doing this, they are stacking the deck against the Palestinians and the goal presented by Congress to support the peace process is only lip service. The conflict going on in Gaza right now has nothing to do with America or its interests, but by choosing sides, we are only allowing more blowback from the Middle East.

In addition, by arming the Israelis and calling for resolutions supporting Israel, we are providing a green light to any atrocities they commit. While it is inexcusable to lob homemade rockets into Gaza, it is similarly wrong for the Israelis to impose a blockade of Gaza. This act according to Ron Paul is a "cruel act of war" and is nothing short of genocide. The few individuals that are firing rockets in contrast to the larger population does not give right to Israel to execute collective retribution against everyone in Gaza and America should remain neutral vice loudly proclaiming its support for Israel.

In all reality, this resolution, which is similar to one passed by the United Nations, will do nothing to bring a halt to the senseless killing we have happening right now in the Middle East. The only outcome of supporting Israeli actions and promising "vigorous support and unwavering commitment to the welfare, security, and survival of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state," will be to draw us even further into this conflict. Instead of pledging our support for the survival of a foreign country, we should be more focused on protecting our own interests and the survival of the United States.

Doesn't seem Washington's approval rating is increasing, rather decreasing now in leaps and bounds, so it appears that ordinary citizens such as some of those on AC who use the Constitution and common sense with respect to solving some of our nation's problems, rather than the elitists in Washington and left wing nutjobs who hold with "human rights" rather than "Americans rights" as the primary purpose of government could do a far better job, eh?

Good thing the House is in charge of this kind of thing, and not hack writers on AC, eh?
