House in Review: Adverse Events

Steve Helmer
Synopsis: Breckin Meyer plays a painter who is having problems with distorted vision and is admitted to Princeton-Plainsboro Hospital to be treated by House and his team.

What I liked about this episode: I liked the mystery behind the artist's ailment because everything points to the experimental drugs he's been taking (to make money to hide the fact he hasn't been selling paintings) but he still experiences the symptoms even after the drugs are removed from his system. The solution is both interesting and a bit gross.

House is also at his best as he investigates his team and finds out secret details about their lives; including Taub's wife having a separate bank account with $100,000; something Taub did not know about.

What I didn't like about this episode: Well, I'm going to start out by asking who in their right mind plans to hold the "weekly test" of the emergency broadcast system in the middle of a new episode of House? What, you couldn't wait until a commercial or run it during a re-run?

As far as the show itself is concerned, I have to say I'm growing weary of that private investigator, Lucas. When he first came on the show, I thought having a private investigator finding out secrets about patients was kind of cool. Now that he's apparently obsessed with Cuddy, he's becoming a bit creepy. Plus I don't like the fact he's essentially replacing Wilson in terms of being House's friend. If you want that interaction, just have House and Wilson make up.

Speaking of Wilson, did he drop of the face of the planet or something? I know he and House had a falling out, but you think they would at least mention him.

Same question with Cameron. What happened to her? Chase mentions her briefly but, once again, you don't see her.

Final Opinion: Interesting case but I don't like where the overall story line is heading. Too many regulars are MIA and the new addition of Lucas just isn't working for me.
On a scale from one to 10: I would give this episode a 6.
