House Warming Gift Ideas

It's always exciting when a person movies into their own place for the first time. Even if you have absolutely nothing, the freedom to go and do as you choose, is an item far more valuable than any material possession. Nevertheless, it's always important to have a few things when starting out. However, having what you need and having what you want are two different things. Here are some house warming gift suggestions for the person who needs everything.

Laundry Supplies-Whether you do your laundry at home or at the Laundromat, there are a few basic essentials. Fill a laundry basket with items such as hangers, a laundry bag, tide or bleach pens, clothes pins, fabric softener (you can include the sheets, liquid, or both), washing detergent, an iron, and spray starch. If they don't have a washer and dryer of their own, then include a roll or two of quarters.

Cleaning Supplies-You can fill a caddy with sponges, dusting cloths, Windex, bathroom cleaner, pine sol, brushes, 409, and a mop. Be creative. Include a list of helpful house cleaning tips. For example: in a pinch, vinegar and hot water is great for spot cleaning carpets.

Cooking Utensils-Select a nice water pitcher and fill it with a variety of spatulas, spoons, whisks, measuring spoons, and measuring cups. Not only will it be a functional pitcher, but it can also become a nice utensil caddy. It can really add presence to a kitchen counter. Of course, a nice pot and pan set is always nice too. You can get a nice functional set for about thirty to forty dollars, which is great for starting out.

Gift Cards- The best thing my family did for me the first year was to give me gift cards. For my house warming, birthday, and Christmas, the gift cards poured in. I received cards from a variety of stores, so every need was covered. I was able to buy groceries, spices, canisters, a knife set, dishes, a ceiling fan, and all sorts of other items I really needed. I was even able to put gas in my car when I was strapped for cash.

When I got my frist place, everyone in my family took turns cleaning out their cabinets. They gave me the things they no longer wanted but that would be useful for me. I got a loveseat, towels, tupperware, shower curtains, bedsheets, an old vacuum, and even some pictures for my bare walls. There was nothing wrong with the stuff, my family just didn't use it anymore. I have slowly upgraded to things that match and that are more modern, but I greatly appreciated those used items at the beginning, and anyone else shoud too.
