House-Arrest

A Poem About the Plight of the Retired People

ILAKKUVANAR MARAIMALAI
House arrest

When there is no one
to understand your taste
When everybody turns
his or her head in disgust
If you begin a conversation
When a TV channel of your choice
can not be tuned
When you are not given freedom
to determine your schedule of work
When you are always
at the receiving end of commands
When you are disturbed
at your reading hours
When you do not find leisure
to spend at your will
Then it means you are under 'House- arrest'
People call it as a retired life.
