Housewarming Gifts: What and Where to Buy at Affordable Prices

Buying an Affordable and Appropriate Housewarming Gift

Shana Dines
Housewarming gifts should be special. You want to get something for your friends or family members for their new home that reflects their personality. You don't always have to get something that is personal. Sometimes it can be a frivolous gift or one that is functional. Sometimes getting a plant or a flower arrangement is just as nice as a gift that will last for a long time.

You can find many different things to chose from at Target or other department stores. If you really don't like shopping you can buy online. Make sure that you order in plenty of time to be able to present your housewarming gift to the new residents.

Housewarming gifts don't need to be expensive. You can buy a really nice gift for under $50.00 or less. It depends on how much you have to spend and how well you know the people that you are purchasing your gift for. I like to give a gift of art to my friends. You don't have to be an artist to give an art piece for a housewarming gift. If you know the person well you will probably know what their personal taste is.

If your friends are more into formal living you will want to get them a piece of art that will match their décor. If you want to buy or make them a piece of art, such as pottery or a painting, you can get affordable art at art shows. If you are fortunate enough to be a creator of art most people love to have a handmade gift. Keep in mind their color preferences if you buy a housewarming gift that needs to match their décor. If you don't know what colors they are using in their new home, you can find something in a neutral color such as in beige shades or in black or white.

If your friends are newly weds or buying their first home or moving into their first apartment it is wise to get them something that may be more functional. It is nice to know again what their tastes are. If you don't know them that well there are still many things that you can get for them that are useful. Things like dishtowels, aprons or grilling tools are nice for housewarming gifts.

It is not impolite to ask your friends what they would like or need for their new home. If all else fails just ask.

I got my Daughter some supermagnet hooks, with pot holders and commonly used utensiles. They are handy to have on the side of her stove and fridge. Great article.
