U of H got the ball rolling in Stillwater, Oklahoma, a few weeks ago. They walked into Boone Pickens Stadium, and essentially embarrassed my Oklahoma State Cowboys. Then they follow that up with a win over Texas Tech. I blinked and suddenly the Cougars are suddenly spotlighting in the AP Top 25 poll, a place they've not seen in quite some time. All of a sudden, you look on the newly released poll, and Houston has slipped into the #15 spot, and they've entered #18 on the BCS poll, which is just getting started for this year.
They're currently 6-1 overall, with the only loss coming at UTEP about three weeks ago. That one blemish is the only mark on their record, with a big win at Oklahoma State and a decisive win on Saturday against Southern Methodist.
The remaining schedule for U of H is Southern Miss, then road trips to Tulsa and UCF. From there, it's back home for Memphis and the season finale against Rice on November 28. They have a really good shot at making a decent bowl game if everyone can stay healthy and they keep playing the way they have so far. If everything clicks, there's no reason the Cougars can't break the Top 10 by the time the Rice game comes around.
Up next for Houston is Southern Miss. The Golden Eagles are fresh off a 37-point thrashing of Tulane over the weekend, who incidentally, got hammered by Houston one week ago.
Predictions are already being tossed around, about bowl games and just exactly where the Houston Cougars will be sitting come the end of the season. I believe the final five weeks of the season will be just as exciting as any other part of the season as every other team in the country will be trying to knock each other off in hopes of reaching the best BCS games they can get. It should be very interesting to watch!
