Rush Limbaugh is a terrific marketer for the NFL. It is no secret to anyone that listens to Limbaugh that he loves the NFL. The only question is how Limbaugh would root in a match up of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the St. Louis Rams. Each Open Line Friday, where callers are encouraged to call in with topics or their choice, a question about the NFL always makes it to air. Limbaugh's affection for the black and gold comes through loud and clear. Again, Limbaugh is a great marketer of the NFL that will serve McNair and Houston well in the coming years.
According to YahooSports!, Roger Goodell said, "I have said many times before that we are all held to a higher standard here," the commissioner said. "I think divisive comments are not what the NFL is all about. I would not want to see those kind of comments from people who are in a responsible position within the NFL. No. Absolutely not."
This comment was made regarding the Donovan McNabb flap of a few years ago. Limbaugh said, "I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well."
This was a commentary on the sport's media. This quote has been mishandled from day one by Limbaugh detractors. These detractors try to paint Limbaugh as a racist which is patently false. Read the comment carefully. Limbaugh is commenting on the media and not the quarterback. It is much like Limbaugh saying that Chris Matthews wants Barack Obama to get his healthcare bill passed. The commentary is on the media. Bob McNair shouldn't take the easy road of siding with Limbaugh detractors. McNair should get to know Limbaugh and make his decision accordingly.
Bob McNair brought the NFL back to Houston when the odds were against him. Now it'll be time to stand up for another underdog.
