Houston's Sheila Jackson Lee Must Go

A Contributor Perspective

Kathleen Dougherty
HOUSTON - Houston CD-18 incumbent Democratic Representative Sheila Jackson Lee must go. She has, on more than one occasion, catapulted Houston into the national spotlight. Unfortunately, it is usually due to her all encompassing ineptitude. She is an embarrassment to Houston and has shown callous disregard for her constituents. Every time I hear her name on the news I cringe because it is surely something that will make Texas, especially Houston, look bad. She is incapable of giving a straight answer which in itself is not surprising for a politician but Lee takes it to an entirely new level. John Faulk is ready to take her on and hopefully the voters will opt for a change in the right direction in November.

As a tea party proponent I am personally insulted by her accusations that I am racist. Actually, racist is too benign. She insinuated I was part of the KKK during an NAACP conference. Accounts reported by The Hill claim she said, "All those who wore sheets a long time ago have now lifted them off and started wearing, uh, clothing, uh, with a name, say, I am part of the tea party." Is this really who we want representing us, Houston? Sheila Jackson Lee must go.

But as a woman, I am at least glad she is fighting for my rights. Sheila Jackson Lee told activists at a rally that America should "join 27 other countries that have equality guarantees for women, including Rwanda, Algeria, China and Afghanistan." You mean Lee will make sure I have the same rights as women in Rwanda or Afghanistan? Thanks but no thanks. Sheila Jackson Lee must go.

Let's not forget her campaign to bring equality to the...weather? Sheila Jackson Lee felt hurricane names were too "lily white" saying, "All racial groups should be represented." Yes, because hurricane names are a pressing issue. Sheila Jackson Lee must go.

On the House floor this is what Sheila Jackson Lee had to say, "Today we have two Vietnams, side by side - North and South, exchanging and working. We may not agree with all that North Vietnam is doing, but they are living in peace. I would look for a better human rights record for North Vietnam, but they're living side by side, because that was a civil war." She certainly has no place as a history teacher after her stint in politics is over, which will be, hopefully, soon because Sheila Jackson Lee must go.

In a town hall meeting that would normally not even make headline news locally, Sheila Jackson Lee had the audacity to answer her cell phone in the middle of a question from one of her constituents. The unapologetic disrespect she showed to the voters who got her into office is appalling and once again propelled Houston into national news. Sheila Jackson Lee has to go.

Sheila Jackson Lee has supported limiting the right to free speech, arming enemies of America, staged questions at town hall meetings, used public funds for personal trips, takes naps on the House floor, ignores the wishes of her constituents, stunts private industry and continually tries to butt into my business where no government should be allowed. She continually shows an appalling lack of intelligence, tact and respect.

But my personal favorite Lee-ism is occurred on a visit to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory when Lee asked if Mars Pathfinder had taken an image of the flag planted there in 1969 by Neil Armstrong. Wow. Houston, we have a problem. That problem is Sheila Jackson Lee and she has to go. Let Houston once again be in the national news for the greatness that is this city as opposed to the bumbling of the current CD-18 representative.
