Authentic Korean Found in a Food Court

Yori Yori Korean cuisine isn't quite a restaurant but an eatery that is located inside Super H-Mart in Houston, Texas. I guess you can say it's sort of like a station in a food court except the Asian cuisine in this food court is authentic and freshly prepared. I had no idea a place like this existed until about a month ago when my boyfriend took me there. He had been talking about it for months but I never had the chance to visit it until recently.

When my boyfriend told me Yori Yori was located inside a supermarket I was skeptical about trying it out. Asian food at the mall food court is fine for speedy dining, but no one goes to the food court to eat out. The food court is a convenient place to grab something to quench your hunger and replenish your energy to continue your shopping. The Chinese and Japanese food at the food court isn't authentic, not even close. My boyfriend insisted that the food was really good so I gave it a chance. I was surprise going in, it was a nice supermarket, very big and there was a little food court area. It's not big because there were only about four or five food stations, all of which seems to be serving a variety of Korean dishes. There was even a sushi place. My boyfriend ordered some crispy chicken and I ordered what I normally do when I go to a Korean restaurant, the spicy seafood tofu stew.

The food at Yori Yori was definitely authentic Korean cuisine, they even offered free sides and a bowl of rice with the stew. The servers were very friendly, the service was quick too. I didn't have to wait more than five minutes to get my food. The sitting area with all of the tables was kept fairly cleaned as well. This place even accepts credit card, very few places like this do. My spicy seafood tofu stew was delicious and so was my boyfriend's crispy chicken. I know this because we usually split our meals.

There were some negative points to Yori Yori. Although I enjoyed my stew and chicken, it wasn't the best that I've had. I would've liked it if they had given me a spice option. I prefer my stew really spicy but this one didn't even register on my test buds. The chicken portions were a good size but it wasn't boneless and that made it messy to eat. It was a lot like eating buffalo wings but in bigger portions. We ran out of napkins after the first piece. They only offered two sides with my stew instead of the full course that I'd get at a restaurant, which I guess is to be expected. Yori Yori's spicy seafood tofu stew wasn't what I was use to having there was hardly any seafood in it unless you count the chopped up octopus tentacles. I've never had it with octopus so I wasn't expecting that, otherwise I would've asked for something else. Needless to say, I had to eat around it.

Considering the location I was expecting the food to be cheaper but in actuality it was priced higher. My stew costs around $8 with tax. That doesn't sound much but considering I've had better at an actual restaurant with the full side dishes for less, it was too much for me. Although Yori Yori accepts credit card there is a minimum of I believe $10, maybe $15 to use it.

Overall I thought that the food at Yori Yori was delicious but I probably wouldn't eat there again. The price for the food, and the location really just isn't worth it. I'd much rather just go down to Chinatown and eat at my usual Korean restaurants, at least then I'd be getting more for my money.

I went to a super H in Georgia, but didn't get to sample a whole meal. The only thing I did eat were some shrimp dumplings. They were delicious.
