How to Get Your 8 Hours of Sleep

Fabienne Hernandaise
Most people complain that they are tired and groggy throughout the day and combat it with a quick fix: a coke or a coffee. The saying goes that everyone should get at least 8 hours of sleep a night, but only a fraction of "everybody" actually falls into that category. There is a cure for bad sleepers; the key is determination and self-control.
Don't Procrastinate. Getting a good night's sleep can be achieved several ways since everyone has a different core problem. One of the most popular dilemmas people face is to sleep or keep working on that important project. Choosing the former is easier if you have broken out of the habit of procrastinating. Believe it or not, leaving things for the last minute cuts into your Zs. Doing everything in a timely manner will have you arriving at your bed in a timely manner as well.

Get in the mood, early. Think of things or instances that have made you sleepy before. For most people, a warm glass of milk or turning the A/C on cold does the trick. Do not have caffeine after 6pm, it will affect the way you sleep, or not sleep, that night. Think of fluffy substances such as clouds and bunnies. As ridiculous as it may sound written down on paper, it works.

Have the proper equipment. And by equipment I mean a 5-star pillow and mattress. If you do not have the cash to fork over for an upgrade on a mattress, conform to buying the best pillow you can find. Naturally, you will sleep longer and better because you will not want to leave your pillow. Goose feathers and silk pillowcase are used amongst the trendiest hotels for a reason. If you find investing money in your sleep a dumb idea, then maybe you should not be reading this article. One's own health and comfort comes first, then the rest of the world.

Train your biological clock. Everyday no matter what you are doing go to bed at a specific time. Your body will begin to get the picture that is has to begin shutting down by 10 or 10:30. Falling asleep and sleeping will become easier when the body has a pattern to follow. Dim the lights and try just resting your eyes every day at the same time until you fall into a slumber. Within a week, insomnia and sleep-less nights will become a thing of the past.
