How to Achieve Balance in a Chaotic Life

Patti Stafford

Do you struggle to find and achieve balance in your life? It seems like a difficult task but you can take small steps to gain big results. Just incorporate some small changes into your life each week and things will start to fall into place for you.

Did you know that when you have balance in your life, you inevitably help those around you find balance? People are attracted to others who have it all together; it inspires them to achieve greater things in their lives as well. By making small changes in your life and creating balance, you can inspire those around you to follow suit.

Here are a few tips to get you started on your way to a harmonious life.

Plan to Succeed. Create a schedule and daily routine to keep track of all your activities. When you put things in writing and allot your time wisely, you'll find that you're less stressed and even notice you have more time to do things you enjoy.

No one ever plans to be a failure, but unless you plan to succeed, it could very well happen. When you plan to succeed you don't give failure a chance to step in and take over. You'll be so busy with success that you won't have time to fail.

Get into Perspective. Decide what's important to you and your family. Set your priorities around those things. Without priorities or perspective you'll feel like you're spinning your wheels to accomplish things. Putting your family and career into perspective will give you more focus and help you gain traction to move forward.

Think Positive. The more you have positive thoughts, the easier it is to have them. Many things can lead us to negative thoughts, but if we can stop those thoughts and fill our minds with positive thoughts, things become more pleasant around us. Moods and thoughts are like magnets, they attract likeness (i.e. positive attracts positive). If you're gloomy, that's what you'll attract. If you're happy, that's what you'll attract. Sometimes gloominess will try to rear its ugly head when you're trying to be happy. Just don't let it take hold and soon it will move on to someone else.

Financial Health. This one seems odd but it is a central worry in most homes these days. Plan a budget and stick to it. Make small donations for emergencies, the future, or other things you never seem to have the money for. I know you think there isn't enough to budget, but it can be done. A dollar doesn't seem like much, but if you put it back each week and stay on budget, it will grow. When an emergency does arise, it's a lot easier to deal with since you have something put back.

When you feel you're in control of your finances, you'll feel more in control in other aspects of your life as well.

B Vitamins. Research shows that depression can be linked to low levels of vitamins B6 and B12. These vitamins help protect long-term mental health and regulate mood. The next time you visit the doctor for a check-up; have him check your vitamin levels. The sadness you feel on occasion may be due to a deficiency in some B vitamins. We all know that even small bouts of depression can leave us feeling out of balance and out of control. If you suffer from severe depression, you should see a qualified physician.

Get daily exercise, fresh air, and sunshine. We all know the benefits that these three offer, but too often we let the weather keep us indoors. It's vital that you get outside in the winter time as well as summer time. There are many days in the winter nice enough to step out for just a few minutes. Taking a quick walk around your house will give you physical activity and being outside will give you fresh air and sunshine.

Breathe Deep. Your lungs were made to fill with air, but all too often we breathe too shallow. Studies show that most people only use 10-20% of their lung capacity. Deep breathing is something you can do any time, any where and requires no special skills or equipment.

Just creating a little balance in your life can reap great rewards. You'll feel better about yourself by creating harmony in your home and find more time to enjoy with your family. Not to mention you'll attract happier people to you.
