First develop a plan of action. Write a list of steps that will take you closer to your goal and follow it to the point. You can set up small steps depending in your goal; you can include on your list: "I'm going to spend at least 2 hours a day, from 6 to 8, to do X that will help me in achieving my goal". It doesn't need to be something particularly hard, make it something that is easy but will improve you over time.
Then you have to pick three, four or five things from your list and make a firm commitment to you that you will follow them to the point for at least the next three months. Don't overload yourself with this; the point here is to pick tasks that are attainable and you can make with just a little extra effort; this way you'll be motivated and won't give up as easily.
Stick to your guns. Once you have picked your tasks don't let laziness, procrastination or even friends or family to talk you out of your commitment. This is perhaps the most difficult part of the process, but if you stick to your least it will become an habit eventually, and it'll be much easier for you to follow it. Besides, the feeling of satisfaction you will have will make you feel accomplished.
Once the three months have passed with you committed to your duties, it is time to give yourself a hand and analyze yourself. Discover how you have grown, and based on that analysis set another set of duties to follow the next three months, and determine how they will help you to achieve your ultimate goal. The past experience will make this task easier the second time around. Follow this method to stay motivated, and most importantly to achieve the discipline you need to be successful.
Each day is important when you have set a goal. Following this system will take you closer to success every day that passes, not only for the tasks you do to achieve it, but also because you will be developing your decision, commitment, and confidence. This is crucial to achieve success in life, so keep improving yourself every day.
