How to Act Successful Until You Become Successful

Borrowing Success Traits

Kelly Wallace
Sometimes when life has you down or responsibilities are piled high, it's difficult to focus on your dreams and goals. Being successful in life isn't difficult, it's simply trading in one habit for another. There are times though when we must borrow the success traits of others and adopt them for ourselves.

You Have Already Been Successful

Think back to a time in your life, no matter how brief, when you excelled, when you came out ahead, felt unstoppable, or totally confident. Perhaps at this moment you can't dredge up any positive situations from your past. Of course, this is never the truth. There was a point in time-a year, a month, a week, an hour, or even five minutes-when you felt on top of the world and that if you touched things around you they could have turned into gold. The feeling may have quickly passed, but you were unstoppable in that moment.

Who Do You Admire?

If you honestly can't recall a time when you were successful, happy, and confident, then it's time to use your imagination a bit. Think of someone you admire and would like to be more like. Think of people like Zig-Ziglar, Tony Robbins, Donald Trump, Jessie Jackson, Dr. Bernie Seigal, or Oprah Winfrey. Their lives are vastly different, but one thing is for certain: They're all successful, passionate, happy people.

Visualize Success

For a moment, imagine what it must be like to be in their position. How did they get to where they are? Sheer luck? Not a chance! They had passion and determination. They knew what they wanted in life and went for it. They looked at their life one day and decided they wanted more for themselves and in the process they could help others. That's another thing these people have in common-they gain success, wealth, and happiness by reaching out to others. Make a list of the traits you would like to possess for yourself and start acting on them today.

Fake It Until You Make It

Whenever you feel you can't do something, put yourself in the shoes of someone you admire. How would they think, react, talk and walk? Sometimes, borrowing the traits of a person who has already made a success of their life can help you to get past the roadblocks in your own.
