How to Actually Get Something for Free Off the Internet

How I Received an Ipod Shuffle

Kali Chondra
Most of the time that you look on the internet you are besieged by ads proclaiming "Free Laptop", "Free TV", or "Free Computer." Like everyone the idea of something for nothing draws me to click on the banners more often than I should, luring me into a trap as sure as cheese would a mouse. I find myself set upon with pop-ups and spyware attempts, causing me frustration and anger at the site that is supposed to have something for free.

Other sites are more devious. They look fine, and the information seems legitimate. But upon clicking on the site and reading their terms and conditions it turns out that you have to spend anywhere from $300 to $2000 to get an item that is supposedly free. They trick, connive, and con you into their web to get your information. Maybe they actually send the prize out, but I never heard of it until I ran across a little website called Ipod Sweepstakes.

Ipod Sweepstates seemed the same as the others at first, but when I clicked on terms and conditions I was amazed. The company was not trying any kind of funny wording to have you work hard and never get a prize. It operates on a point system. I grumbled to myself because points systems always bugged me due to how little points you received for what you did. It helped that the site was putting in 200 points for ever new subscriber. Rather than some astronomical number that I would have to be a supercomputer to understand, the Ipod Shuffle can be redeemed for only 1000 points, and most of the offers they have rank around 20-40 points each.

It would take some work to get the points together, and needless to say I was throughly bored the second day I visited the site. The site is a very nice, easy to understand design, and gears to what I thinks you would want to be doing when you surf in. Points are received for anything from just entering your email address or Zip code (6 points) to signing up for aol high speed internet service (about 400 points). I slugged away at it though and by three months later I at last had enogh points.

The redemption process for the website was so smooth. I entered my address and got the confirmation page. After that I started waiting. But I was only watiting the second day before a package was left on my doorway. It was the Ipod! It was in really good time, New shape, and even came from a reputable store. I was shocked. I had never had any sent so quickly.

All in all it was a very good experience. One that I would be willing to share to whoever wanted to hear it. Or experience for yourselves.

scam scam scam. if you go on their blockbuster offer, it doesn't even have any links to the official site.

The reason I do not even try this stuff is the TOS usually say they share your email address with their partners. Because one agrees to receive mail from the sites and their partners, one gets spammed big time with ads. Some of those popup ads do not say "with completed offer" as the law requires them to do so. It is nice to know how you got the Ipod and the quick service. But I doubt I will click on the next "Free Ipod" ad I see.

Great article. Surprising. You usually have to jump through hoops and get nothing but all of your information taken.
