How to Add a 75-Song Playlist to Your MySpace Page

L. Carter
MySpace has become the main attraction of the internet because, among other things, it is a giant forum for self-expression. And what better way to express yourself than to add 75 of your favorite songs to your profile? It definitely beats having one song on your page that disappears when the artist decides to delete it.

Creating a 75-song playlist for your MySpace is pretty simple. Just go to www.projectplaylist.com and set up an account, then start searching for music to add to your playlist. The sky's the limit in terms of what's available; Project Playlist somehow scours the web for MP3 files matching the song title you enter in your search, and then delivers you the results. Sometimes certain songs will be unavailable, but more often than not, if you can think of it, Project Playlist can find it.

Once you find the song you want, test the file before adding it to your playlist; some files don't work. If it works, add it, and then just keep searching for, testing, and adding songs to your playlist until you have as many as you want. Each playlist can hold up to 75 songs, but you don't have to load that many. You can also create multiple playlists to add to your page if 75 songs isn't enough.

Another feature of the playlist is that you can customize its color to match (more or less) your current MySpace layout, and can decide whether you want the playlist to start automatically when visitors land on your page, and whether the songs should shuffle or play in order.

Once you've added songs to your playlist and customized it to your liking, get the code to add to your MySpace page, cut and paste it in your "About Me" section, and voila, dozens of songs on your page instead of one.

The only drawbacks to the playlist are as follows: sometimes each song takes awhile to load, so it will play for 10 or 15 seconds, then load for 10 seconds, then play for another 10 to 15 seconds, not exactly creating the best sonic experience.

The other drawback is that as files get deleted from the internet, some of your songs won't work. You'll see an error message and the playlist will automatically skip to the next song. In that case, you have to go back to the Project Playlist website, delete the files that no longer work, and either replace them with files of that song that do work, or just search for another song altogether.

But overall, the playlist is a major improvement over having one song on your MySpace page: it's easy to create, it's free, and it's a great way to showcase your personality and taste beyond glitter graphics and lists of bands you listen to.
