How to Add and Use Borders on Digital Photos

3 Project Ideas for Digital Pictures

Adding a border to your digital photo is a great way to spice up any photo. It is relatively easy to do and opens up tons of possibilities for your photo.

To add a border, open your photo editing software. Open the photo file within the software. Do a little search for the border that you prefer and apply it to the photo. Do not save the picture over the original though.

The wonderful thing about having an ample choice of photo borders is that you can make the photo look more serious or more fun. For example, a firework border wouldn't look well on a graduation picture, but the firework border would be wonderfully fun on a family reunion photo of Aunt Jane.

There are quite a few projects that you can do with a bordered digital photo. The simplest is to frame your photo and set it on your desk or give as a gift. A more in-depth project would be to make a wall of digitally enhanced photos that focus around a specific subject or group of people. For example, the subject could be birds or your kid's birthday party. There are several styles of photo collection hangings. The most popular is the kind where a collection of six or more frames hang from each other by small chain or rope. Frequently, the frames are of various sizes.

One favorite project of mine is decorating shirts, pillows and more with iron-on transfers. You will need iron-on ink and paper and an iron to complete this project. After you have added a border and saved your photo, check to make sure the size will fit into the designated space on your clothing article. Shrink the photo if neccessary. Print the photo on the paper using iron-on ink. Now pin the paper in place so that it won't slip and iron. You have a nice bordered picture on your shirt or pillow to keep or give as a gift.

Photo albums are a beautiful way to view photos. An album made of bordered photos is also a great way to hand down the family memories. In this digital age, a physical album isn't the only choice- a digital photo album is common place. There are a few software programs on the market for building a photo album, but the easiest way is to simply copy the photos to a CD or DVD. Then let the slide show application run.

With so many projects to make from digital photos with borders, all of your spare time will be filled.
