How to Add Color to Your Home Using Artificial Flowers

How to brighten up your home with artificial floral arrangements. Who doesn't want to add a little color to a room, or an entire home. Seasonally though it can be hard to find exactly what you are after, and then there is the fact that live flowers wilt and are no longer any good, or ascetically pleasing. I have made some beautiful floral arrangements using materials from Michaels', and other craft stores but they are also readily available at chain stores such as Wal-Mart. Here is how to go about making a (or many) artificial floral arrangements for your home.

The most realistic artificial flowers are in the more muted colors, staying away from the obviously fake colors will make it more believable. Make sure to choose "greenery" for your floral arrangement also, like baby's breath or ferns. Try not to match your wall colors to the flowers as this comes off as really fake and just blends in, not letting the color accent what you already have.

Try to stay away from using only one color of flower. The flower shops that I visit always have pre-made bouquets of various colors that look amazing together, and beware of greenery that is too shiny, another tip off that they are fake.

Clusters of smaller flowers look more realistic. Try to avoid choosing the giant bright colored flowers for arrangements. If you really like those then try to use them as a single stem in a vase for a nicer effect. Those types are just too much when arranged with other flowers.

Go with a variety of greenery, colors vary in nature so to keep it realistic it is best to also use varying colors in your bouquet. Good examples of useful greenery are: baby's' breath or ferns. As they are so often used in floral shops bouquet and add a nice depth to your bouquet.

Lastly make sure that you are used a variety of textures in your bouquet, and that the pieces are of similar size.

How to complete your arrangement.

Try to stay away from clear vases. Colored or smoky vases hide the fact that your arrangement is not as real as it looks.

Putting it all together:

As with gardening you should put the tallest of your flowers to the back and let the smaller ones have their room up front so they can be enjoyed also.

Lay out what you think you are going to go with, getting a good view of what it will look like when it is all done. You don't want to just throw everything together so it is best to lay out and see first.

Use wire cutters to match the length of the flowers so that they can all go in correctly.

When the stems are all cut put them in the vase, don't worry if they are not even, a bit of variety will only make it look more real.
