Adding music to the Apple iPod is one of the great features of the MP3 player. Used in correlation with the iTunes media player (also designed by Apple), music can easily be uploaded from a computer onto your mobile music player. Each song only takes a moment to be uploaded and in less than an hour you can have an iPod full of brand new music and audio content.

Upload Music to the Computer

The iTunes software is required to copy music to an iPod. iTunes can be downloaded for free at iTunes.com and there are Mac and PC compatible versions. Once iTunes is open you can insert a music CD into the computer if you want the music from the disk on the iPod. A small window will appear asking if you would like to copy it to iTunes. Click "Yes" and the music will be ripped onto iTunes. Repeat this for all of the music you would like to upload to you iPod MP3 player.

Syncing the iPod to the Computer

Take the USB cable, which came with the iPod, and plug it into the device (there will be a thin port on the bottom of the music player). Now take the other end of the USB cable and plug it into any available USB port on the computer. ITunes will open automatically (if it is not open already). The device will automatically sync with the computer, but this will not necessarily mean the music will be placed onto the device. Select the music manually which you would like to add.

Uploading music to the iPod

Open the device up by clicking it's name (you give the iPod a name when syncing it up for the first time) on the left hand side of iTunes under "Devices." The iPod information will now be displayed. Click the "Music" tab and you will be taken to the music section of the device. This will show all of the music currently stores on the iPod. Scroll through the list of available albums. These albums will have small boxes next to them. If there is a check mark in the box it means the music is already sotres on the MP3 player. Check the box next to the albums you would like to add to the iPod and click "Sync." The device will sync to the computer and the new music will be added
