One of the most important conditions that must be met in order to gain admission to a university or college in Austria is the language requirement. You will need to prove that you have sufficient understanding and capabilities in the German language. You may even have to pass an exam on the language.
You will need to have either an A-level diploma or a high school diploma. It will be considered the equivalent of the Austrian Matura exam certificate. Or you may present proof that you have completed a three year program at another college or university as an alternative. Also the certification proof that you provide must be sufficient to get you in to the same program in a college or university in your home country. If what you want to study in Austria is not offered in your home country then the next closest program of study will be used instead.
There are a number of documents that you will need to have to apply for admission in an Austrian university. You will need to have a passport as well as another official ID card with a photo of your self. You will need your high school level diploma certification as mentioned previously. You will need to have your transcript with your most recent grades listed on it. You will need to have a completed application for admission, a registration form, identification form and continuation form. When you get all of your documents together you will need to have the original version as well as a German translation of each document. The translated copy will need to be notarized at the Austrian Representation Agency.
You will need to have your tuition paid before you are given permission to come to Austria on a study visa and before you can continue your studies if it is a new term and you have already been studying at the university. You only have to pay tuition once each term regardless of how many classes you are taking. If you are a European Union citizen or an EEA national then tuition is around EUR 365 per semester. If you are not a European Union citizen or an EEA national then tuition is around EUR 730 per semester. There are also some additional fees of a student fee of EUR 15 and an insurance premium.
