Preparing for college can be a pretty intimidating process, when it comes to filling out applications, forms, and writing a personal admissions essay. Of course the application is essential for entrance into any particular college; however, the admissions essay is extremely important. Your personal essay is a unique stamp that shares with admissions representatives who you are, what makes you unique, and most importantly, what makes you different from everyone else applying. Yes, even with extremely high SAT or ACT scores.
Colleges often have specific word requirements that they are looking to receive from applicants in regards to how long an essay should be. Be sure to place a great deal of emphasis on the topic that you use to express yourself, your views, opinions, or shaping event in your life.
A college admissions essay is pretty straightforward, almost like a regular essay would be, structured with a thesis sentence, and followed by examples outlined in your thesis statement. An admissions essay is not like dissertation writing, which would be completed prior to receiving a doctorate degree, or an expository essay, where you would be outlining specific directions for a task.

Your essay should be an expression of yourself, focused on an important topic to you personally. For example, if you have a great interest in a particular hobby, sport, or craft, you might choose to share what significance this hobby, sport, or craft has had on your life, and share something that you've learned from participating in them. You could share how your passion grew for your hobby or interest, as well as what you've learned from the skills.

Perhaps you learned how to play an instrument, and due to your great passion for music, you have been diligent in practicing and have persevered through difficult lessons or songs, to reach a specific goal. This would be something essential to share in an essay, since it helps portray your aptitude, your personality, as well as your interests. Examples of this nature help explore your individuality amongst the quantity of applicants to the school you want to attend.

Your essay should specify why you are looking to attend the school you are applying for and what you can bring to that school. In this aspect, you can consider you are applying for a job '" what skills will you take with you into this "job" and what would your "employer" gain from these skills?
Attending college is pretty standard after high school so you will be competing with all graduating high school seniors for entrance into exams. The world as a whole is competitive and you will be expected to set yourself apart on paper. What makes you an asset to the school(s) you are applying to? Keep this focus in mind when writing will help you lay a foundation for your ideas.

Before writing, explore some basic topics that would interest you. Prepare a list of examples that you could add to these topics that would make them pertain specifically to you and provide your own personal flair. After compiling a few lists, there will probably be a topic that clearly sticks out for you to complete. You might even have a different essay for different schools. You end goal should be the same, to make yourself stand out with your personal statement.
Utilize people around you that you trust to help you formulate your ideas, if needed. These people can also help provide any feedback, as well as any editing that might need to be done to your thoughts. From there, you should be set to go with applying to colleges with a well formulated admissions essay.
