Interview Process
Prospective cat owners who are looking to rehome a cat from Battersea Dogs & Cats Home are required to attend an interview to make sure that the cat they have chosen is a good fit for them, their family, home and current lifestyle.
The rehoming process is unique to each individual applicant, which is why it is important to be patient and allow time for the interview and adoption process.
Meeting Eligibility Requirements
To meet basic eligibility requirements to rehome a Battersea cat, you must be at least 18 years of age and bring along identification with your name and address. If you are applying jointly with your spouse, each of you will need to supply identification.
Applicants who do not own their own home will need to provide written permission from their local council, Housing Association or landlord to prove that they are allowed to keep cats in their home. Before you are allowed to rehome a cat from Battersea, all members of your family will be required to meet the cat.
Long Distance Considerations
Cats are rehomed all over the UK, provided new cat owners are in a position to collect the cat from London, Old Windsor or Brands Hatch. If you live over five miles from the nearest Home, you can even start the rehoming process online. Once you have completed your application form, a rehomer will call you to go over your application with you.
Home Visits
After you have been interviewed, you will need to allow a home visit to see if your home would be suitable to accommodate a cat. This usually takes place within seven to 10 working days after the interview and will be arranged in advance. However, if you live too far away from one of the three Homes, you will need to provide a letter of recommendation from a vet or a rescue centre.
Rehoming Fee
Battersea charges a rehoming fee of £65 for cats. This fee covers the cost of microchipping, vaccinations, four weeks of free pet insurance, three months free out-patient veterinary care for a condition that was related to your cat's stay at the Home, food, an ID tag and access to an Advice Line if you require continued help and support once you take your cat home.
Battersea Dogs & Cats Home screens cats in order to match them with the most suitable families. The rehoming process can take some time so be patient, especially during peek periods during weekends or holidays.

Good information for potential pet owners!
Excellent info. Still no electricity in my office so I can only tap into the computer when everything else is off on the other side of the house which has electricity. Sorry I am behind. It's also hard to type in the dark. I'm not very good at it. Ha!
Excellent guide!
