How to Advertise on Your Favorite Web Site

Aaron Sinn
First, start your search by looking at your favorite websites. Do they have ads? Odds are they certainly do. You'll need to be familiar with what size of ads your favorite websites run, in order to advertise on them. Take notes of all the different ads that all of your sites are running. They will all more than likely be standard ad sizes, i.e. banner, half banner, leader board, skyscraper, etc. Any quick search engine search can give you the exact pixel size of each of those ad boxes.

Look for a way to advertise on your sites. Every site is different, and some are more simple than others. Does your site have an "advertise here" or "advertise with us" button somewhere on the site? Many do, if you know where to look. Some are as easy as looking right bellow the ad. Some can be found at the very bottom of the landing page. Some, you can figure out by hovering your mouse over the ad and looking at the link it will send you through. Most ad companies, like Project Wonderful, will link through themselves to the site that is advertised, for their own tracking purposes.

Once you know how or where your favorite websites get their ads from, it's time to sign up! If they use an ad service, such as project wonderful, then join! Sign up and search for the website you want your ads to be placed on. If they use a company, like Blind Ferret, then you will need to contact the company directly. This is by no means a difficult feat, as they exist to make money off of ads, and are very familiar with advertising inquiries. They will more than likely be able to handle any questions you might have, as well as help to get you up and rolling as quickly as possible.
If, by some chance, the website you are looking to advertise on doesn't have any of the above mentioned ways to find how they manage their advertising, you can simply contact the website themselves. Most sites, no matter what the content, will have some way to contact an admin. If all else fails, just do this! Like most people, they will probably not turn away your advertising dollars, and will answer your questions happily.

Once you have found out how to advertise on your sites, the only thing left to do is to put up your ads! The sooner you get your ads up and running, the sooner you can start pulling in the target audiences of your favorite websites to your own! It really is a rather useful tool... so what are you waiting for? Go!
