GRANTS AND GOVERNMENT: Talk to your local job and family services agency to find out where to start in getting help in paying to convert your home to solar energy. Because "going green" is all the rage right now, there are government agencies that are giving grants and tax rebates to those who use solar energy to help run their homes electricity. This is saving you money on your electric and heating bill also.
TALK TO A SOLAR SPECIALIST: Find a solar specialist in your area to get a quote of what it would cost to install a solar system to run your homes energy on. There are different packages to choose from. You could start small, only using a little solar energy, which would be cheaper to start out with, then more and more as you can. Or you could totally run your home off of solar energy, which may be expensive at first, but will eventually start saving you money over the years. A solar specialist will be able to sit down with you and show you how much you could save per year using solar and in turn how long the solar energy system would take to pay for itself. They can explain to you how the solar energy could actually make your electric meter run backwards, lessening your electric bill if you decide to only do partial solar energy. Look online or ask your local job and family services agency to find a solar specialist in your area. It will be worth talking to them.
TAKE A HOME EQUITY LOAN: Since a solar energy system will increase the value of your home dramatically, you should consider taking out an equity loan to pay for it. You can sit down and talk with your banker, after talking to a solar specialist to find out the potential cost of the solar energy system. Banks may be able to even give you a deal on rates for "going green". Be sure to ask and investigate all of your options.
