How to Be Aggressive in the Job Market

Being aggressive in any job market is not entirely difficult, but it does involve cultivating an attitude of self-examination. What you consider trivial and irrelevant to a job, many bosses might consider the turning point of company progress. You will need to be confident and there is no true method of maintaining confidence without backing yourself up.

Your Resume. If you have MS Word, there are many resume templates available for you to use. Online, there are many available from the web. Your resume must include your job experience, even fast food work, the hours you are available to work and all of your references. However, more than that, it should include your college experience and activities, your talents, any performing arts you do, how self-disciplined you are, and whether or not you are willing to be hired on a trial basis. Sometimes, it is comforting for a boss to know that you are willing to prove yourself to the company.

Your Appearance. Good looking people get paid more, have more vacation time and start out at a higher salary. This is true. You will need to be washed, "combed and curried," dressed to the nines and smelling appropriate. If the interviewer is the same gender as you, try not to show them up. A good way to do this is to express serious interest in their personal lives, such as their cute kids or what they are wearing for work that day. Do not express an interest in their spouse, no matter how flattered you think they might be, especially if you are good looking. If something comes up, say, "I could never get a guy/girl like that in a million years. Good for you."

The internet. One of the premier ways to get a job is online. Have your resume completely polished off, have a "sales note" to tell them how great and aggressive you are, then begin applying to your state's work force commission or job placement commission. Get in touch with many different job placement agencies, sending them your resume and suggesting the type of work you would prefer to do. Go on Craigslist and email every single job that you believe you could do or learn to do proficiently. In every email, introduce yourself, give your "sales note," and include your resume.

In person. If there is a company you would prefer to work at, show up at their place of business, still dressed extremely well, ask to speak to a manager and ask them about positions available. While you are there, ask them about their company or business needs, being thoughtful and inquisitive so that they know that you are interested in their potential for income. Even though this may seem like a backwards step for you, ask about any internships available. This is, in theory, an opportunity for them to see your work ethic without risking a position or income.

If you do not have a job, there really is no one to blame but yourself. There are hundreds of positions to apply for through many different methods. If you are thinking outside of the box, you can have several options available to choose from. And don't forget to list your non-working talents on your resume. Sometimes, they only need an employee with a sense of humor!
