How to Get Ahead in a Tough Job Market

DJG08
We have all been in that situation where we look for job postings either online or in the classified ads, and have to compete with hundreds of people for the job that we want. Thus, it becomes doubly hard to get chosen for that job with all the competitors around.

So is it possible to avoid all this, and get the job before others find out about the job opening in the first place? Yes, it is possible, but it would require some research and some wise predictions, and the use of your personal network.

So how do you go about this? First of all, you should identify what job or career path you would like to take. Whether it be the software industry, the advertising industry, the engineering world, and a lot of other career paths that are out there. If you want to get a step ahead of the others, you will have to keep yourself abreast to the latest developments in the industry that you have selected. So, for example, if you selected the automobile industry and find out early that a certain company is expanding and opening a new plant somewhere accessible to you, then that is your signal that they will be needing new workers and offering new jobs soon.

To get the inside scoop before it even happens you should build your network in your selected career. If you have friends or family already working in your selected industry, then well and good for you, you already have existing contacts who can give you inside information on expansions, company needs, new departments, new company acquisitions and the like. This will help you be first in line to be interviewed, and you can be assessed before anyone else, and if the company's need is great, then you might even be hired on the spot. If you do not have those connections, then create them for they will be a big to you in the ways earlier mentioned.

In this day and age where the financial crisis has hit many of us hard, we need to be more creative, and more proactive in whatever we do. If we just try to think ahead of the others, and predict what needs companies would require before they even ask for it, then we all have a better chance of landing the job we want, without, or with less intense competition. This means we are capable of getting a job, before it is saturated, and we are no longer needed. Hopefully this strategy works for you, as it can be a real advantage when job hunting. Good luck!
