How to Make All Natural Essential Oil Perfumes

Melanie L. Marten
Making all natural essential oil perfumes is a hobby that results in great scents to wear. It is easy to get started with making these perfumes and colognes. Using essential oils and a few other natural ingredients, you can create scents that relax or give you a surge of energy, or even invite romance. Instructions for making both traditional and all natural, alcohol free, products are included here.

Create Your Scent - Essential Oils

The first step in making any natural perfume or cologne is to create your preferred scent from essential oils. Go to any health food or organic living store and purchase some essential oils. Mix these together in a way that smells good to you. You can mix together combinations of scents that are good for either men or women.

Different essential oil scents are associated with different aromatherapy responses. You might like to make your perfume give a certain reaction. For example, rose is a stimulating scent while vanilla is relaxing and sensual. Citrus scents are usually described as giving the wearer a burst of energy and uplifting her mood.

Making Traditional Perfume or Cologne

Traditional perfume and cologne is made by mixing your essential oil with alcohol. It is important to get the purest alcohol possible. Choose either 100 percent grain, or ethyl alcohol, or use 90 proof vodka. Do not drink the resultant perfume or cologne mixture.

Perfume should be mixed one part fragrance and four to six parts alcohol. Cologne is usually lighter, so use just one part essential oil with ten parts alcohol. Both perfumes and colognes can be used by men or woman, depending on the amount of scent he or she wishes to wear.

All Natural Alcohol Free Perfumes

If you do not want to use alcohol in your all natural scents, you can use a light oil instead. Some good choices for oils to use with your essential oil scents include sweet almond oil, safflower oil, grapeseed oil, and apricot kernel oil. Choose an oil with a light scent and thin cosistency.

Creating your own all natural perfumes and colognes is fun and rewarding. Using aromatherapy essential oils, you can make a scent that is truly unique to you. Experimenting with different scents can be a lot of fun. Make a rose scented perfume for romantic evenings and one with lemon balm and ginger for daytime wear. The choice is up to you. Making these natural scents is easy.
